You're not the first 'oh i used to post at old school SG, then left, then came back and it's dead, I want to bring it back to life person and I will!' person. Needless to say, given that it's still dead, they have all failed, and so will you.Abe Dandrell wrote:And what makes you say that?WaWard: If you make a plan to resurect it, I garantee that it will fail.

Are we still talking about resurrecting SG here?Pikohn wrote:In any and everything I do I have faith...I will not lose cause this is not a game to me. I want to help my family let them see things they only dreamed of before its too late. So fuk you if you can't understand my motives.

How does the family guy thread relate to SGUK?
And what about the 5564263 other topics?
There are a couple of SGUK threads for sure but not all of them...
Anyway, Rekki, me you and Abe need to organise an SGTokyo meet at some point!
My current visa won't let me leave China once I'm there but it will expire in mid-February normally so maybe we could organise something after that?
Golden week or something?

Since when are you guys a bunch of defensive nancies?
Besides, it's not like I only post in this kind of thread... I posted in that Venture Bros. thread, the "Things go fast" thread and the Uwe Boll thread and probably others. I just don't care about Family Guy or these other topics.
But seriously, it's just coincidence. I was talking to John on MSN and decided to see if SG still existed and it did so here I am!

I remember when I first came to SG or whatever the hell it was called before that. I was pretty much a fetus back then. Now I'm a lot more disgruntled about life. I remember Skull, Kat, Skoto, Kneepads, and a few more flunkies.
This place really is a ghost town now. Why not just shut this sucker down, I mean, doesn't it cost money to keep this old shack up and running?

No. Worse than that.
It was called FlamerGamer and existed on an old Freewebs account.
Since I was the only one who knew more than 3 HTML tags I was the one who did most of the work.
I never really took it seriously. It was a load of 14 year olds trying to write reviews, most of which were so poor that they've probably put Gamefaqs to shame.
I just used the place to do a bit of research into young gamer culture, as an article for my old college.
Basically, summed up, it was 'They know fuck all about games and how they're made'

Yeah, it's an interesting thing isn't it.
I did a mahoosive review of FFX praising it from every direction about a month after I got the game.
But now I hate it.
When I was a regular on the Highbury Magazine games forum I raised an interesting question.
"Do you think the early console launch games that got 90% or more would get the same if released now?"
It was an interesting topic, basically about how our tastes change over time and how the way we see games evolves as developers get better with the system, since it's regarded that the best games are the consoles swan songs.

[Random biographic tidbit]There is a small interview of me in some EDGE issue
(was an issue on female gamers or something. I was supposed to represent the hardcore female gamer demographics
Issue also featured interviews from female game developers and designers, female web gurus owning VG related website community things, etc.)[/Random biographic tidbit]
Funniest GamesTM moment was when they didn't get any review code of Half Life 2 (no one did) so they were pretty much the only magazine that refused to review what was basically online trailers, pictures and hype.
Two years later a Lambda sign and a 9 appeared on the back page.
Since everyone everywhere reviewed it, they decided not to as they felt no one would care.
So, they got berated about it and gave in after two years
They've always been seen as a knock off of EDGE, which, though not truly unfair criticism, I've spoken and descushioned with the staff quite a bit and they're all decent people.
Journalism is a very icey career to be in.

Relax, I didn't mean anything by it, I was just curious, I didn't think a website could make much if there weren't too many patrons. It makes more money than it costs tbh.
If you don't want to post here then don't, but it's none of your business to say it should be shut down.
When it comes to internet economics, I'm not just smart, I'm army smart.

"Army smart", uh? And what's that supposed to mean, exactly?Blue Nocture wrote:When it comes to internet economics, I'm not just smart, I'm army smart.
I sure hope for you it's not the same with "Military Smartness"Clémenceau wrote:"Military Justice" is to Justice what "Military Music" is to Music
More seriously though, "a website should make more money than it costs" is not particularly military thinking. I could say it's being "engineer smart"or "scientist smart". But that would only be showing my professional bias. More objectively, it's just common sense *spoilAer*
Remember: just because the army happened to teach you what you know, doesn't mean it holds exclusive intellectual ownership over that knowledge/skills' set
Also, while I'm at it: you're still a fetus. Just a slightly bigger one. Still got a lot to learn, obviously. And it's the same for every single one of us. Be disgruntled now if you want, as it seems to be part of this (continuous) maturing/"growing older" process, but when you'll be done pouting and sulking, remember that there is a life even after that.
Bottom-line is: being disgruntled is counter-productive. Destruction is easier than construction. So pull yourself together, soldier! Life sucks? It's up to you to make it something better.
