I don't know... It is pretty weird. But mostly I think it's funny. Especially for my monk, to whom I've never equipped a single weapon for the very reason he's stronger w/o them.WaWard wrote:Hey. When I set classes to my dudes for the first time, for example my black mage, he can equip a rod, but he's much weaker with the rod than without it. Y4!

That's not really anything new. Monks are generally better when they're unarmed in FF.Kakeru wrote:I don't know... It is pretty weird. But mostly I think it's funny. Monks in FF3DS still retain the NES FF Monk Syndrome, in that they are pretty mediocre until their levels get around the early 20's. Coincidentally, this is where the Red Mage starts to decline in usefulness.
Early in the game (prior to the second jobset), your hardest hitter is a dual-wielding Thief, period.

I've found Red Mage pretty useful. Aside from some MP issues (I still have 0 MP for level 5 magic), my Red Mage out-damages my Knight (previously my warrior).Questionmarktarius wrote:Monks in FF3DS still retain the NES FF Monk Syndrome, in that they are pretty mediocre until their levels get around the early 20's. I finally reached a town with summoning Magic, so I checked out evoker, but I wasn't really impressed.. Especially with Shiva... After a few levels of Evoker I'm assuming Summoner, the more powerful version, gets unlocked. I don't know if I'll go for it.. I'd be replacing my black mage, whcih I'm pretty happy with right now, and I don't really like the lack of controll with Evoker. Maybe it's different for Summoner, but right now whenever I use Shiva she mostly uses "mesmerize" and all the chocobo does is escape, so the level for which I have the most MP is useless.
There is one thing I thought was pretty entertaining though... Small spoiler..
So I was having problems fighting Garuda. His Thunder spell was decimating my party and I was getting pretty frustrated. So, I decided to put a bunch of Dragoon equipment I'd recently gotten to use. I changed every member of my party Dragoon, got them all two Wind Spear's each, and fought random battles until everyone was adjusted to the job and went to fight Garuda.
Turn1: Everyone Jumps.
Turn2: Everyone lands doing 2000+ damage (one did over 3600).
Garuda Dies.
non-traditional party set-ups ftw.

Ah, so have you just discovered the official "dragoon strategy(?)"
. I remember doing that with a nasty FF5 boss back in the day (XDeath when you first meet fight him in a forest, I think, before some spoiler happens...). And even before that, in FF6, using Esper Palidor + some dragoon & 2 weapons relics (+ Gogo's mimic FTW
)
I want this game so badly, but I dont even have a D.S, Luna is a very lucky gal, is Black metal fang like your boyfriend or somthing?( question directed at luna)

I had to dig pretty far to check if a FF3 DS thread exists.
This game is great and everyone who likes FF should play it through. It's been released on steam if you don't have a DS.

Refia even shows up in World of Final Fantasy representing this game.

Maybe....
Dragon Quests are pretty interchangeable but I wasn't liking DQIX too much. DQV was pretty good, but I was late game and felt like I should do some leveling. DQVI I was playing at the same time as DQV and stopped when I started getting more momentum into DQV.
