However, my Bandit's hideout is in shambles because of brothers dropping it on the floor. Plus there's the fact that I lost the building intructions so I was never able to put it back together.
oh man when I was in germany I think at the KaDeWe (KAUFHAUS DES WESTERRNERHABENGLOEBEN) they had these crazy big bulk bins of normal type lego blocks it was FUCKING SWEET. largely because most lego you can get now is crappy basically brebuilt stuff.
EDITING TIME: oh man I can't play this on mac I guess
I have never played lego before. My youth was squandered on video games, manga and tonnes of marvel +DC comids. I even missed the boat on chicks until much later.

Then again, from what I've heard, the newest Legos suck balls. How could Legos go wrong though?
You know why?

There's no goddamn creativity left in them anymore. Before, you bought LEGO blocks to mix it up with your collection and build anything. Nowadays, you just build the predetermined one and leave it at that. Creativity and imagination are slowly diminishing in the products.

Lego used to be free of advertising but now we have Harry Potter, Star Wars, Spider Man, Winnie The Pooh, the list goes on...
It's become just another way of selling brands, sadly

I don't know about modern Lego, but back then, even if there used to be themed Lego, you could quite easilly mix them : build a medieval castle on the moon landscape and have a monorail train arrive in the middle of the courtyard (and rockets hidden in the towers), have the knights wear astronaut helmets and put laser guns on horses...
I was rather fond of the "technic" Lego as well (with electric engines to power the vehicles, or the robots you could program on the computer... We had some of those in my CS College ! )
My mom is cleaning out the big cupboard of toys at my house and she has filled 1 25qt container and 1 15 qt container full of legos so far, and that's only with the stuff that's loose and doesn't contain all the stuff that's still put together (a bunch of some alien series that my brother had). I love lego, and Olly yelled at me when I didn't show Damien my collection. Remind me, Damien.
though am I a loser if I love that they have harry potter, star wars, spiderman, etc? They're just so cooooool....... except for the small sets which have like 5 pieces and can't be changed at all, of course...

But how is that possible?
I mean, can't you take them apart anymore?
I remember the old packages had several variations of the blocks on the backside... but there was never any instructions for those and my creativity wasn't sufficient to build awesome looking stuff without manuals
I played months ago after coming across the thread about it on SA Forums, I quickly got bored of it as there was no one to play with, really, so I turned to things like this:
Obviously it's not the most complex of creations, but for some reason it was my favourite. Among the others was a giant mech and a floating tower/outpost on the moon.

I mean that before, the whole focus of the blocks were about building things your own way, and that the prebuilt design was more of a secondary thing if your were a beginner or just like the design. Nowadays, the whole point of the blocks are to fit a design. The uses of the pieces become too specific. I'm not saying this is bad, its just that the generality of LEGO in the past helped to build people's creativity because it was limited and yet you could do anything with it. I think that the pieces now just make the whole experience rather bland when it becomes to easy to do things, so you'd rather stick to the prebuilt design because it would look better that way. But this is all just personal opinion, coming from a sometimes skewed logic.
Oh, and LEGO selling out is a bit troublesome. But I'm not complaining!

This I have to agree. Some kids these days are just too stupid and lazy to build their own fantasies. And their attention span lasts like .2 seconds.
I just had to make a retarded typo that'd be quoted several times.
and I agree, it's that the pieces are too specific now, and plus the guys' faces are way too detailed for my liking. ok, if it's star wars themed or something, fine, although I still like it when it's just some details over an otherwise plain lego face. now they've got like smirks and more detailed eyes and shit.
I think its just that it's easier to say than "LEGO blocks". People just kept using it too much, and now its become the right way to say it. Even though its not.

Reminds me of the evolution of computer programming...
I had a big bucket of assorted lego. I have no idea where it went, but it probably got given away because I didn't play with it anymore. Now I'm sad that I don't have lego.

I agree with you. The details in the characters' faces are ruining the objectivity of your figures. Orginally, you could choose which side you could root for. Ice vs Metro, Pirates vs Naval Fleet, Kingdom vs Band of Thieves. Heck, even the cops and robbers had neutral faces.
Today, they all dictate who the good guys and bad guys are. Maybe I'm reading too much into my LEGO, but I though the objectivity of LEGO helped developped children's social and moral structures.
I never knew what the hell you dumb motherfuckers were talking about with that gets bullshit, but then I watched adam and joe go tokyo and he was featured on an episode
