Hmmmm... this come out here today, so I thought I'd go see it before Spain (otherwise I probably won't see it for years, judging on my home watching track record).

I thought the first one wasn't as bad as it was made out to be.
Infact, it was only marginally worse than, say, Spiderman 3 and the like.
Hopefully the lack of ZOMG! WE R TURN INTO TEH SUPARHEROZ! and the inclusion of some good new characters (Silver Surfer) will help pull this to the forefront of superhero movies, opinion-wise.

As you can see, I'm being optimistic about this

I haven't seen it yet, and all I've glimpsed of it is that trailer they've been showing before every kids movie for about a year, and some spoilers that I accidentally came across while checking showing times online

Anyway, I'm off to see it now.
Will probably report back later tonight to [google]G[/google] it up.

The RDM has pretty much heard nothing but good things about this one. Maybe he'll see it when his fiance leaves for Bennington.

On a side note, the first one sucked. Perhaps it didn't suck much more than Spidey 3, but it still sucked.

Fantastic Four pretty much sucks all the way around anyway. I don't see how a movie could change that.

I went out to see this film, hoping I'd like it.
I did

[google]Rise of The Silver Surfer[/google] has pretty much nailed the superhero genre tbh.
What can I say?
Great characterisation, great pacing, great plot, FANTASTIC!

Unmarked mild general overall plot [google]spoilers[/google] ahead.
I liked the fact that the inital main bad guy was an unknown quantity until some way into the story.
It was not known who he was, where he was, what he was doing, how he was doing it, or what his motives were.
Ontop of this they managed to include the tri-enemy thing, but unlike Spiderman 3, not make it feel bundled or shit.
The main enemy being a truly and clearly world-destroying force was also very good.
Special effects and such were top notch (though Mr. Fantastic's stretchyness still looks silly).

I'd stick my neck out and say that this was my favourite of the Marvel films so far.
Fantastic 4 was mildly enjoyable, where as this was great.
Fun, non-pretentious, and not dragged out at all.
There were also quite a few nice comedy moments/scenes.

I liked it as well, but they didn't even try to digitize Galactus which made me sad, but overall it was pretty good. There was alot of jokes and stuff that were decently funny. Overall I'd say it was worth it although I didn't pay anything to watch it so that kind of helps. Nothing great by any means, but hey it's better than SPider-man 3 (not saying much) so it's all good

The RDM doesn't think they could do Galactus justice.

He's trying to convince his fiance to see it with him tonight. She's all like "X-Men 3. That's all I have to say." and the RDM's like "Argh. You have a point."

Trust me F4 was alot more entertaining than X3. Not neccessarily better, but it is as close to the comics as you can get in regards to X3 and SM3.

Well...so far the "2" movies have been the best in most of the series.

The RDM still doubts he'll be able to get her to see it. She hates non-serious movies.

It certainly was better than Spidey 3 and PotC 3. Or any movie that Garbo enjoyed more, for that matter.

The RDM certainly liked Spidey 2 better than the other ones.

And the old Turtles movies don't count, but anyways 2 was almost as good as 1 regardless. It was 3 that was crap.

3 is always crap.

Just look at The Godfather and The Exorcist.

Other 3s that sucked: Matrix, Terminator, Fast and Furious, 300

I think the only exception or one of the only exceptions was LOTR 3.

MAtrix doesn't count because 2 sucked too, same with Fast and Furious. No comment about 300.

Rocky 3 was good, but in the RDM's opinion Rocky 1 and 2 count as one movie, then 3 and 4 count as another, then five and six count as the third one, which sucks.

Um how can you say Matrix 2 sucked. 1 was certainly better, but 2 was just as good. And 2 Fast 2 Furious was my favorite of the 3, but that's just me.

Rocky doesn't count since there's 6 movies.

The RDM just came back from the movie and he must say he was impressed. It was a gigantic step forward from the first one. It was the first time in a long time the RDM came away from a movie thinking it probably should have been 10 or 15 minutes longer. They did everything better in this one, everything. Best comic book movie since Sipdey 2 by a very wide margin.

The RDM does have a few gripes with it, though. First, Doom. He was exponentially more badass this time around, but still not even in the ballpark for what Doom should be. This is Dr. Fucking Doom we're talking about. There are very few characters in the history of American pop culture that have as much badassittude attached to them. Batman is the only one that comes to mind. He was too much of a whiny little prick.

Second, Mr. Fishburne. While the RDM agrees in principle with the idea of the Surfer having a disaffected, lifeless sounding voice in principle, this just didn't work. It didn't look like he was talking, for one, and, well, it just basically sounded like crap. This is probably the RDM's biggest gripe. He really sounded so bad it took a lot away from the movie as a whole.

Third, [spoiler]the Galactus copout. The RDM understands not wanting to blow your effects budget on a five second cameo...but a fucking cloud? Fuck that fucking cloud. The point of Galactus is that, while he is a force of nature, he is a sentient force of nature, and he can easily be identified as such. He is the only force of nature that can be reasoned with. He is not a fucking cloud.[/spoiler]

Though the RDM sounds rather enthusiastic in his griping, he really does think that this movie was well done. If they can tweak a few stylistic things, a Surfer spinoff might have some hope of...well...not being Elektra. This movie has given the RDM renewed hope that there can still be good comic book movies. Even with PG ratings, apparently.

Now he just has to wait for The Watchmen.

I really didn't mind Fishbourne's voice. And yea Dr. Doom isn't as badass as he is in the comics, but then again really none of the villains in these movies are. I think the actor that portrayed him did a very good job though.
