Yeah we need one of these, you know the deal.
Jubes recommended The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, but I couldn't find it at the bookstore... so I bought Paradise Lost instead! Woo!
DIS-CUSS.

Still reading I, Robot....
All I have to say is that the book is better than the movie by 9999999x. I'm just glad I saw the movie first, so as to seemingly get my moneys worth at the time. D:

paradise lost D:
I am reading nothing just at the moment, although I just finished a couple of terry pratchett books. surprisingly the first ones I've ever read (aside from good omens with neil gaiman), despite having always been a fan of fantasy and humour. very good stuff~!
I don't know what I'll read next
maybe women in love by d.h. lawrence
maybe finnegan's wake by james joyce... yeah right. I will read it eventually though! ulysses was great, but then again, ulysses mostly made sense.
I am sort of considering reading all the song of ice and fire books again since that fourth one is bound to be finished eventually, but I'm sort of a slow reader and that would take a lot of time.
I'm also considering reading some nonfiction... maybe some 20th century history or something. I never really enjoyed taking history classes, but I would enjoy learning about it on my own time.

I'm finishing Canterbury Tales now, and plan to start either Quicksilver or The Orestia after it. I'll probably go with the Orestia, since we just read Oedipus Rex in school and I'm in the mood for some Greek vengeful tragedy.

Paradise Lost and Finnegan's Wake are both awesome, awesome books.
Right now I'm reading some Greek Mythology for my mythology class, a bunch of various stuff I've already read - The Odyssey, The Illiad, and currently the Hesiod.
I also recently finished "The Sword of Shannara" after reading the prequel, "The First King of Shannara." I hope in time it will make A Feast of Crows come faster.

Ah Xenocide, I love that book, and the whole series. When I go back home over Christmas I'm bringing back all my Orson Scott Card. I've been having a bitch of a time actually settling down to read since I got to college, so yes I'm still on Crime and Punishment. So tempted to just start Veronika Decides to Die, though...
Doom: you might try looking for Coelho's books in the mind, body and spirituality sections of stores. He's usually filed there in England.
EDIT: and omg I can't wait for Feast of Crows. Gonna reread at least the last book before that comes out.

I, Robot would have been better off as a high-budget TV series.
The movie had a few vague allusions to some of the scenarios of the book, but the characters in the movie are far less likeable than the ones in the book.

Is that the Stephen King book? I read that a while back, when it was new. It was quite a good book.I reread The Rose Madder a few weeks ago. Good book.
I'm not really reading anything right now. Plodding through English translation of Gravitation manga (which doesn't count!) Sort of working my way slowly through Dragonlance Chronicles again (I <3 my trashy young-adult fantasy tomes).
I don't really have many english books here. A lot came with the apartment, but they're all shitty. I will give you some titles.
McCarthy's Bar
The Female Nomad
The Boy Next Door
Man and Boy
A Married Man
Mr. Maybe
Another Woman
The Diary of Anne Frank
Four Blondes
Sex and the City
etc etc etc.
Save me~

Re: Book Thread
Man, does Jordan make sure he keeps the complexity down by creating scores of copies of the same character and bouncing between them frequently enough to ensure nothing happens at all.

Reading through Archie issue #18342 I noticed that Jughead's crown wasn't actually attached to his head. Rather, it was suspended in mid air... Anyone else notice this? I wonder if it has any metaphorical meaning or maybe its some kind of symbolism...

It suggests a state of constant motion. Since the crown is never quite on his head, his head is constantly in movement and the crown is rushing to keep up. It's symbolic of the exhilarating tension between being and becoming.DR wrote:Reading through Archie issue #18342 I noticed that Jughead's crown wasn't actually attached to his head. The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan is outstanding. Even though the series is not currently complete, the 10 volumes and a prequel thus far are a wealth of information to read through. Great story development on a grand epic scale.
I also enjoy anything from the Forgotten Realms universe by R.A. Salvatore. All of the Drizzt books are fun and entertaining reads.

last night d was looking at this 1982 book from my bookshelf, "invasion of the space invaders" by martin amis (intro by steven spielberg~~!!) about arcade and home video games and in the glossary amongst definitions like "ace - video-game expert" and "Concorde - valuable enemy ship in Galaxian" he noticed "faggot - gay"
we thought this was hilarious so eventually I looked up the book on google and the first thing I discovered was that it sells used for $200-$400 US. bye bye faggot book
now I need to figure out how to list things on ebay (which as it happens has a first-time-sellers first item listing for free deal for a few more days)
