Why do we have to choose an avatar out of a selection

I have hard time not being able to use my own custom avatar even though i do like mine right now i think he is awsome lookin

We have an old "no custom avatars" policy.
It avoids mods/admins the trouble of having to moderate user's avatars: of course, technically, we could have a system to upload custom avatars, and automatically make sure they're no bigger in width/height and memory, than a certain size, but we would still have to filter the process at some point to avoid abuses, content-wise (you know, "unappropriate material" like... spoilers or advertisements

)
Also, it's supposed to preserve a certain sense of (at least graphical/thematic) homogeneity within the community, since all the available avatars are related to games/anime/whatever icons of interest to SGers (e.g. Big Brother UK

)

But! You can submit new avatar sets if you want

Or just submit a few additional avatars for an existing set.
There is no automated interface nor specific protocol for this, but just post a new topic in the comment/suggestion forum, for instance (or the fan submission forum, why not), with links toward the avatars you created/found (in that case, it's good practice to link to your sources... if only to make sure they won't sue us for stealing their avatars

), and if they look good and fit the SG thematics, surely they'll be uploaded - that is when the webmaster gets the time to do it. So, please avoid flooding him with requests

BTW, if you really want to stand out, graphically, you can also make yourself a custom sig. I think small graphics are OK?

Just don't overdo it (not posting your sig more than once on a page, and not having an extra big sig that gets in the way of reading messages and makes pages load more slowly)

Hmmm I remember saving them back then, got them somewhere on my laptop, but I thought Chris had uploaded them as he said he was taking care of it...

Haven't they been added to the normal FFIV list?

If not I'll try to add them later tonight but I can't promise anything as I'm busy packing for holidays... If I don't have time maybe Entr0pi3 will do it later, I'll ask her anyway.

Well, I don't see anything in the normal FFIV list that doesnt look like it's from the original. Don't worry about it though. There's no rush. I just thought about it recently when I saw yuka with a Rydia avatar and I remembered I wanted a Golbez from FFIV advance if there was one.

SR allowed custom avatars. Rekki Maru took a picture of his penis next to a mountain dew code red can.

Yeah. It's the portrait I wanted. There never was a Golbez portrait in the original, that's why I was so interested. Although....with that version of boss Golbez small enough, probably that's better....
