Y'know what...it doesn't matter with Sakaguchi anymore...he's started his own game company and took some major players at square with him (I forget the names)....he has three rpg's in the works and he's trying to sell them to either microsoft or nintendo.
If he ends up pulling off another miracle like he did with the original FF, then square may have finally found the ultimate FF Killer....
This is depressing

imo FF has been dieing since after the release of FF:VII. For those of you who liked FF:VIII it would be after it's release.
FF:IX is okay, but definately not great.
FF:X wasn't all that much fun.
FF:X-2 was a "get rich quick" scheme I guess you could say. Pretty boring. Nice quick smooth battles though.
I'm excluding FF:XI because it's an MMO and can't really be compared to traditional RPGs. In all truth it probably shouldn't be called FF:XI, but I don't control that.
A person I know told me what makes the FF games, FF games, is that they always have a more traditional battle system. Can't say I agree myself.

If anything Final Fantasy has gotten crappy when they started making all these sequals. Yeah, FFIX or X may not be your cup of tea, but that still doesn't exclude them from being really well made games.
X-2 is a well made game (I never had that much fun playing a Final Fantasy) but it's reasonable to infer why FF's gotten crappy since it came out.

I'm not saying they aren't well made. I'm just saying that they aren't as good as they used to be. SE can do better. The thing is that they know that FF will sell simply because of the history around the name so they don't have to work as hard on them, which is why I feel that more recent FF games are slightly lacking.

It's because he's a hardcore christian and hates Athiest's the most.
Re: Final fantasy XII Might as well start it
I personally think FF's hit a peak at FF8. But then again, it's not like it was always the quality of FF8 before it.
FF1 was good, FF2 sucked, I haven't played 3, FF4 was good, FF5 sucked, FF6 was okay, FF7 was good, FF8 was good, FF9 was okay, FFX was good, FFX-2 was good.

FF is like an economy- It's got it's highs and lows
But remember, FF games are graded on an entirely different scale than normal games. For it's own standard, yeah it's not doing so well at the moment with sequel mania goin' around, but as mainstream titles....they are still videogame gold.
The only thing that bothers me is that the once yearly releases of (non spinoff) FF have ended. Now we have to wait aloooong time (partly because of FF11)

no...it's because we demand high quality games and high quality games just happen to take more time to create then sucky gamesGen. It's bad because perhaps he doesn't like other RPGs?
Personally I can't be bothered having to grasp new concepts when I'm playing games.
When I tried to play Xenosaga, it just pisses me off because it's so different from FF, and all the item names are different, etc.
I wanna play an FF, because I can expect to be wowed in story, and won't have to worry about mastering a whole new thing.
I honestly don't play any other RPGs, cuz I can't be bothered learning new item names and all that shit.

Re: Final fantasy XII Might as well start it
In all the rpgs I have played, there are many similarities in all of them.
Re: Final fantasy XII Might as well start it
ok, but that doesn't change the fact that I don't really get into other RPGs all that often because the first 5 minutes is usually learning stuff about the game, and I get put off.

No I get put off because if I don't enjoy a game 5 minutes in, I turn it off.Ward wrote:you get put off because of 5 minute tutorials? what are you stupid? :nub2
I know, but FF was the first RPG that I got into, and I got into it a long time ago. I would never have gotten into it today. If I didn't know what to expect from FF, I would seriously just stop playing after the first 5 minutes of tutorials.Joei wrote:FF is one of the worst offenders when it comes to that, Garbo. :erm

Actually I don't like RPG's in general. FF just happens to be the exception. I'm more into the strategy games meself.
And yes, they ARE judged on a totally different standard than other games of it's genre. It IS the standard for gods sake. Just like almost all stealth titles are compared against the MGS series (Though splinter cell may be the new standard...thats debatable i guess)
