I always avoided people, but while in the past I would walk a bit off the sidewalk to go around them, now I'll just straight up turn around and walk the other way or if I really need to pass them I'll go far off onto the lawn to go around them.
It:s actually kind of freeing to have an excuse to avoid people like the plague literally.

I'm worried about this too. It's going to be strange transitioning to regular life again.Damien wrote:I’m just worried this situation will make me both agoraphobic and scared of people in the long term though.
But also, being social is overall pretty fun so I don't think it'll be as tough as I imagine. The biggest hurdle will be feeling like it's "okay" again instead of dangerous.
They're finally making masks mandatory on transit here, but also cannot enforce it. I get why, it's a safety issue for drivers. They likewise can't enforce fare (though they do on people they feel they can, like college students). Makes no sense for a driver to risk personal harm enforcing it.
The downside, though, is all people are talking about is how they can't enforce it, and complaining about it -- so I imagine that's going to have a bit of a Streisand effect b/c more people will know they can get away without.
Social consciousness is more important than rules at fighting this thing. This is where we're having a shift here. People had mostly been good and our numbers low so the policies themselves have largely been hands off, trusting people to act in the right ways.
But now that's failing but it doesn't look like they want to implement harsher policies. But I think they will need to.

What's the problem? I pull my mask down outdoors so I can get some fresh air. I then raise it up if anyone's getting too close or if I go indoors.Damien wrote:Mask usage seems to be dropping here, probably because people who don’t want to wear a mask see so many others not wearing one and not even being questioned. So many people with masks on their chin as well.

So, BC has had a unique "disappointed parent" approach rather than a strict rule-based approach, and it's starting to show cracks. It's worked well thus far because people have taken personal responsibility (overall) and because we've been lucky with numbers/good at tracing.
But we are seeing the cases go up, the parties continue and ugh. I think it's really time for rules, specifically mask rules.
What I hate is that I see so many people say "well these partygoers are breaking the 50 person limit on gatherings. They don't care! They won't wear masks anyway!" But I beg to differ. If it becomes a rule and almost everyone is wearing masks, chances are these idiots will still wear one when they need to b/c of the societal/peer pressure. That way they can go be idiots at parties and catch the germs, but subsequently be far less likely to spread the germs they caught at said party when they go about their daily grocery shop or whatever.
I would feel much, much better about this than the current "well let's just do nothing but shake our heads" approach.

Mask rules here are that they're mandatory in shops, shopping centres, public transport and transport stations, except if specific health needs make mask wearing dangerous. Thing is, discrimination rules override this, so basically nowhere will approach someone without a mask and question them through fear of being done for discrimination. Now that everybody knows that, far fewer people are wearing masks than a couple of weeks back.

Seriously though wear fucking masks. I’ve sent my kids to daycamp in prep for school. It’s only 3 hours and they get to wear masks the entire time.
If kids can do it adult-babies can too
Sorry to hear that
I have no idea what’s going to happen from this point. The infection rate over here is on the up, the only additional rules they’re imposing is “no people in your home” in specific areas (though no pubs etc have to close) and meanwhile the government and media are teaming up for a “get back to the office” gaslighting campaign so people can start spending their money in the “correct” areas of the economy again.

At first I blamed the government response but the longer this has gone on the more I see the citizenry completely disregard their own lives and the lives of others for various stupid reasons. No matter how on top of things the government is they can't fix people being idiots. If it were just those people dying I wouldn't give two shits but their stupidity is getting other people killed.
