Take2Games has today announced as part of its financial results that GTA: San Andreas will ship one week later than expected, to allow for final testing of the game.
The game will now be available on October 26th in North America and October 29th in Europe. It is not yet known if release dates will change for other territories, such as Australia/New Zealand, where the original release date was the 28th of October.
However, a small amount of good news comes in the form of a release date for the PC version of the game:
Additional products planned for fiscal 2005 from Rockstar Games include Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for PC in the third quarter, as well as two new console titles based on proven brands from Rockstar's internal studios, in the third and fourth quarters. Rockstar also plans to release Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in Japan in fiscal 2005.
-- Take2Games Third Quarter Financial Results, 9th September, 2004
We're not joking, unfortunately, so PS2 owners can expect to be playing this October, and PC gamers will be having the fun sometime in April, May or June 2005.
Update: To silence a few rumours, Take2Games just confirmed that the price of the game will be $49.95 in the USA. Preorder numbers are "significantly higher" than Vice City's numbers at the same time in 2002. The Game Boy Advance version of GTA will carry an "M" rating from ESRB in North America.
One week isn't at all bad, I'm just glad I hadn't booked the 22nd off work yet! Still, it makes you wonder how complete the game really is...

Pray that this dosent become Half-Life 2 style delays. It all started with "delayed by one week as well" - its been a whole year since then....

One week is nothing. Hopefully they get most of the annoying glitches and bugs (that plagued VA
) out of it with that extra week.

Yup, but I'm still hanging out on campus as an unclassified grad...and for the gym and other benefits of being a student
And don't worry, UH likes to think it's a 4-year college but in reality it's a 5 year college.

There is going to be delays for many games this fall, I think mostly because if greater competition is going to be released around the same timeframe it will decrease the possibility of the title being bought, even if they know its going to sell big.

No, Metal Gear 3 exists. As does Resident Evil 4. Everything else can go to Hell.

I want this game too.
The city looks so amazing and it's just so..huge. I can't imagine how long it'll take me to beat it.
But the thing that hits me over the head the most is that it's just not 3 cities. It's 15.

I'm kind of wary about it - I didn't care for Vice City so much, but everything you can do in this game is relieving my fears a bit. Hopefully the missions and story will be better this time around.

That would be very sad. I'm not even sure whether I mean ruining the pun or milking the franchise by making even more remakes of the same games.

I'd be ok with them milking the franchise if they made it the same way they did the FFIII/FFIV DS remakes. I really like the art/graphics style in those.
Of course, they won't, because the time for that has sort of come and gone.

Then we would think.... why would I want to play this on my phone instead of a real game machine? Because that's pretty much what I still think about phone games.

Yeah how does that work by the way? Do they put buttons on screen or do they just expect you to do everything through specific kinds of taps and such a la The World Ends With You.

You can buy controllers to clip around your phones now. There are invisible/partially visible overlaid buttons on the GTA ports I've played. I've never managed to get along with them though.

Still doesn't solve the biggest problem with phone gaming. It still drains the battery too much. If I'm going to have to bring exta stuff to game on the phone, I'd rather bring a dedicated gaming machine.

There are certain types of games that I think are well-suited to phones, and 3D action/adventure-ish games are not among them.
However, I think phones are the perfect platform for something like Advance Wars, especially since they are also ideal for asynchronous multiplayer.

Presumably it was coined to put a positive/fancy-sounding spin on "you can't both play at the same time."

Whatever. That happened ages ago with like Super Mario Bros and like lots of other stuff too. I don't think they needed a fancy name back then. They just didn't call it coop.
Although some games you play at the same time aren't coop and I suppose some games you play at different times could at least potentially be coop... but that's not the point. The point is that 2 player mode of the original Super Mario Bros. was played by taking turns and was most definitely not coop.... whereas Super Mario Bros. 3 was played mostly taking turns, but also some simultaneous play, and maybe was kind of coop but also partly competitive. Category defying game!
