I watched this last night. I don't know if this is the extended version or what, because I never saw it in the theater. Seriously though, all the parts with Kurt Russel owned, everything else sucked. The first half of the movie was entertaining and had decent actresses. The second half was so repetitive and boring to watch, and the actresses were horrible. It reminded me of a straight to DVD movie. Then Kurt Russel showed up again and it was complete awesomeness from there until the ending, which was quite possibly the best ending to a movie ever. The second half seemed just tacked on though, and had none of the style or quality of the first half at all, other than the car chase scenes.

i think the second half was good because tarantino had the balls to kill off the first set of characters and start off with a whole new cast after you got an attachment to jungle julia and her friends. I haven't seen the extended version, but the second half flows really really well in theatres. the car chase was pretty much the whole second half in fact, it was liek 30 minutes.
I think death proof is great because it tips genre conventions on their ear. Tarantino also goes back to his trademark drama and suspense that made reservoir dogs so good, instead of another stylish yet without substance romp that was Kill Bill, and to a degree, Pulp Fiction. Although I still think Pulp is his best movie, Death Proof comes in at close numbah dos.
maybe the extended version made it less exciting or something. if that's even possible.
In this version, the car chase is the shortest part of the second half, the rest is basically an almost identical re-enactment of the first half with the new characters and incredibly boring. I'd like to see the theatrical version, it sounds better.
Problem with Grindhouse is that half the point of it was for you to go to the movie theater to see a double feature of B movie ripoffs.
Buying a DVD of a single one of the two movies in extended format defeats the purpose all together.

Sounds atrocious.
The theatrical version was $$$. There was still a lot of dialog between the characters to start off the two parts, but it was just enough to basically make you almost wish they were dead in the first part and almost like them in the second part, which was why it was pretty brilliant. Like it almost dragged out too long, then you'd get the payoff when the guy kills them.
Planet Terror was better than Deathproof anyway.
I wouldn't buy either of them by themselves in extended DVD format, that's for sure.
the best movie i've watched this year is the Casino Royale blu-ray. it is so worth it just buying the ps3 just for that (and then there's other things on it too) <3
i'm still waiting for a top notch release of 'the shawshank redemption' I know there's a 3disk edition somewhere en even a 2disk version, but neither one of those has been released over here. Dutch subtitles plz.
well you know, the whole point of Grindhouse was to mock B type movies. I honestly doubt it was meant to be taken seriously or seen as an original action-drama thriller. I personally loved it just because it was so entertaining.
I'll be waiting for planet of terror though. I love deathproof, but the other one was def more fun to watch for me.
