Why does "THE RDM" refer to himself in the 3rd per

seriously it has never made sense and never will

is it a self-perpetuating gimmick that you now feel obligated to continue lest you lose your only defining trait?

if this has already been covered fill me in as i haven't been here in any substantial fashion in the last 4 years or something

It's surprisingly easy, actually.

The RDM first started posting in third person by accident, actually, back in the day, but then people made such a big deal of it that it turned into a thing of his and, at this point, it feels somewhat automatic.

Besides, no one would have remembered who the RDM was if he just popped back in and said, "Hi, I'm the RDM! Do you remember me? I used to post here." or something stupid like that.
