I don't feel like driving 2 hours to go see this, so I'm (trying) to get it off of bit torrent and scouring the newsgroups, but of course nothing is coming up and bit torrent is horrible as always.

The only place I know it's showing is about and hour and a half away toward Philly. A friend and I might make the trip Friday.

So I just finished this and I gotta say that it was one of the best movies I've watched in a long time.
these are your years and days to outshine. push on and soar higher.

SAC is so much better. I also think the first one is tons better as well.

sure it's pretty, but i didn't really care about batou or togusa without the major. the dialogue was thick with historical confucious/wise quotes--really wordy without all the action.

i thought it was a waste of my time, although i did enjoy the pretty pictures.

didn't AD Police have some kinda plot like this? bots randomly disfunctioning and turning on their owners? bots that were primarily used for sex?

i think the AD Police anime was better story/actionwise. but i'm not really an in depth anime fan.

I'd be willing to debate that. Call me crazy but I thought Batou's character profiling in Innocence was much better than Motoko's in the original.

Togusa is awesome... in SAC, that is. Oshii's Togusa sucks. :boo

i just thought the profiling for batou in innocence was boring. it was done pretty well, but i didn't feel like i shoulda really care about him. didnt identify with him.

however, regarding togusa in SAC--yes, i agree with you whole heartedly. he was awesome in the series.

I just saw it today and I loved it. There’s nothing I really didn’t like about the movie. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the story or how they presented Batou & Togusa. I would like to see a continuation of their partnership, as long they don’t continuously keep him out of action for the reasons just shown. Last but not least, the graphics were awesome. It’s worth going just to see them in the big screen.

After watching it and fully understand the dialouge..

My opinion still hasn't changed. The parts I knew already I didn't like - the rambling nonsense of the forensics woman was superfulous and pointless; it served no purpose what so ever now that I understand it. I always thought the dialouge between Batou & Togusa was OK, but it could have been a bit better.

More to come when I'm not drunk :beer

So 2nd Gig is good then?

That scene, the one when they were flying around the city, and the burning of the cyborgs all sorta fell into that unnecessary class. The first two were worth it just to watch though.

If you liked 1st Gig, why wouldn't you assume 2nd Gig to be good and follow it from the outset? :p

You could argue from an artistic point of view that all of the scenes you mentioned did plenty to build atmosphere and on the setting (because they did) while the forensics scene really was extraneous.

The scene sorta ties in with the creation of cyborgs w/ ghosts, plus you could sorta argue that it adds to the mood of the film as well.

I dunno, back when, I think it was either someone at S7 or maybe Mikey said something about 2nd Gig not being as good. I don’t remember there being as much ‘hubbub’ about it either.

The forensics scene, the extended shot over Hong Kong, the parade.. a lot of that was completely pointless in a lot of ways. I would have liked to have had Kusanagi been a bit more than just a fight cameo; also, I would have preferred if they explored the Chief's line - "Batou is acting more and more like the Major".. I didn't see that. Agh.

I admit though, this movie did make me want to watch SAC.

SAC is completely different. The same themes are present, but take a backseat to the presentation of the setting and a cop show feel. The structure is kind of like Bebop, actually.

i don't think this is structured like behop cause it is much more complex and darker than behop is.

the tone sets of these anime has two distinctive directions.

yea, SAC II eps 14 owns

the movie needed more kusanagi, period

i also felt that the chief's line shoulda been explored/developed concerning batou behaving like the major

i would rather see a SAC based GITS movie

For anyone who wants a subbed version of Innocence, apparently LMF approved the subs for the 2.3 gig version that just came out yesterday or two days ago (I forget), so it's your best bet translation-wise.

But it's 2.3 gigs...

How did Kim's scene relate at all to the plot of the movie? I mean, it was the best scene, but I don't see how it fit in.

maybe im the only one but i really didnt like the movie
felt like a 20 min ep dragged out to 90 by making it entirely in slow motion with 75% unneccesary scenes and dialogue consisting of only quoting guys that wrote things

I managed to win free tickets to this movie so I'll probably be watching it next week. It's just a shame that the closest theatre thats playing it is a 40 minute drive from where I live. :sadpanda
