Talk about anything here that there isn't another specific forum for. General chit-chat between the SG regulars. The Moderators will be sad pandas if you spam... too much.

This site could be brought back from the dead in some form with content and a new forum and some kind of business model. It would just take some dedicated people to do it. I'd be down for it.
I'd be able to find some time for it if the idea was good enough.
I've got some ideas, maybe I'll write them down and e-mail you Damien and we can brainstorm. Its only worth doing if we really go for it though, which might mean throwing some money into it. The whole Internet has changed in the last 10 years. Facebook, twitter, blogs, YouTube, etc. Fan sites are pretty much obsolete. But SG was always ahead of its time in my opinion.
if you are serious about it, it probably shouldn't be called SG
unless we become a complete troll site
but i agree shaun, we always did have a unique flavor and it's a shame that shit just died out... many of us (and the internets in general) moved past message boards
Yeah that's right doom. There was a time when there was a post every few seconds on this board. Unfortunately without content or registration for new members it just slowly has died out as we all got older and there was no blood. Square also stopped making good shit so that didn't help.
Squaregamer stopped being viable as a site when people stopped caring about Square, and massive gaming blogs with up to the minute news took off.
What we have here is just the remains really.
Hopefully we can make a bad ting good.
There is more than just news that can make for interesting content, and there's maybe ways to present that content that is fresh. Personally I'm tired of "blogs" being passed off as websites that have a news feed and nothing more.
Anything we do now won't be Square Gamer. That time has passed like Damien says. But it can have the spirit and soul of SG in it and evolve hopefully.
You know, I quite liked a now-dead blog that was a news website, except it was simply a daily digest of info. Just pictures of upcoming new games and maybe a little line of PR text.
No IGN reports with staff members droning on about their excitement, no endless rolls of comments from illiterate and retarded internet drones, just a constant stream of new stuff. I thought it worked quite well.
But that's just one example of a good blog masquerading as a website.
Come to think of it, it sounds similar to Magicbox, except even more sparse.

Cheers. We were getting very heavy traffic around that time and were easily one of the biggest fan run news sites of the time. That's probably the most fun I've had in my life.
Yuka: MagicBox was so simple but brilliant also because they were just scanning and translating the weekly gaming magazines that come out here in Japan. Now days news is faster online for the most part, but Famitsu still scores exclusive screens and info pretty regularly.
I'm interested if anyone has any content or presentation ideas.
The html is still in its original ASP server form ("#include virtual" all over the damn place), and needs some minor cleanup and possibly CSS goodness.

Tbh I wish SG could still be a good time waster when life slows down and I need to kill time online. Reading FB or Twitter feeds bores me to death and I don't have an arcade next door anymore
I get excited everytime I receive an email from Square Enix about their latest games. Last week it was Dissidia 012.....this week I had an email that I could get Lara Croft: Guardian of Light for £4.99
