my mom used to just play like computer adventure games, like sierra games, and when I was a kid I was always like "FINAL FANTASY IS BETTER" (this is when I played FF6 all the time) and she was like "no it looks dumb" and finally I forced her to play FF7 when I got it, and since then she's played like a million more RPGs than I'll ever play, and she buys them all the time and stuff. which would be a dream come true for me if I still played rpgs as much as I used to.

I came back to Fei's one day and noticed his mum was playing Valkyrie Profile. She wasn't really playing it properly though and was confused so I gave her a tutorial :D

Hahah - holy shit! The BF12G tank at the missile base is BADASS when all you have is Fight and Limit Break as options.

I thought I was doing pretty good (got a 3x Meteor off of Slot that busted up all 4 of the top power cells), but then it went into its nutso Beam Cannon phase and blew me out of the water. Next try I get the 12 second Duel with Zell, but not even that is enough to bring the beast down. I haven't even got to the part where you fight the 3 guys afterwards yet, and if I did it would only have been with one member in yellow HP anyway....

Finally the No Junction game is starting to pay off in difficulty.

Yeah, the FFVI no level game is by far the hardest thing ever as far as RPGs are concerned. I had a lot of posts about it because it was rocking me pretty hard as I went along. Even with the 128% MBlock trick some bosses just refuse to die willingly. The 8 Dragons, Kefka's Tower, and all of the higher end sidequests are absolutely insane.

It required a lot of thinking to beat some bosses. I died like 20 times to Katanasoul until I realized you can just Phoenix Down the bitch. :E

Or bosses like Dullahan who were easier to defeat by Rasp/Osmose his MP away than kill him through HP.

The logistics of the final 4 tier endgame battle is pretty crazy too - you have to set up strategies and back up plans for a long time. Calmness is rape, and you get hit twice with it (and it goes right through your MBlock, so that dosen't save you either). :(

Fei's mom is the coolest.

My greatest accomplishment? Before my memory card was stolen, I had a 981-0 Blitzball record :E Fun stuff. I will absolutely crush all of that after I play Phantom Brave though, mark my words

I don't have very many "accomplishments" per say. I mean, beating the hell out of Xenogears and Xenosaga. Other than that I really just play though games.

I've beaten Xenogears 6 times Vash. :(

Re: Gaming Acheivements?

Post by Redlimit »

The final areas of the game count for the final 4% to 200% (there is 100% for each of the two castles - regular and inverted). It is impossible to have that 4% recorded in a saved game however, so 196% is the real "full completion" number at the final save point.

As for FFVIII, I just beat Norg and crashed into FH. The tank finally went down to two 12 second Duels (I started the fight with Zell at 33 HP), and a quick 5 hit Duel followed by Burning Rave killed the 3 soldiers afterwards.

T-Rexaur got Degenerated by Quistis (I made sure to get a Black Hole in the one Laguna flashback), and to my suprise, the Oilboyles can be Degenerated as well. I think they are the only boss that allows this...god only knows why, but it sure made my life easier.

Norg however was a problem. Limit Breaks that hit more than one target are a big no-no in this fight, and I had already upgraded Squall to Shear Trigger (I should have waited but I forgot about this), so that left Rinoa's or Quistis' limits. Rinoas are the epitome of useless at this point in the game, so it was time to bust out the Micro Missiles. Two shots of that followed up by some other damage and Norg goes down - it did take about 9 tries though, as Psycho Blast is a one hit KO on anyone and his Water spell does about 500 damage. He loved killing poor Quistis before she got both Missiles off, but on the final try he finally decided to ice Rinoa instead (bravo Norg I like your thinking :l ).

Should be smooth sailing for a while now. After the FH antics are over and I get all members back I can explore and get some much needed weapon upgrades, Odin, and some levels under my belt. Yes, level ups are important in this playthrough because bosses don't level up in the same way regular enemies do - at a certain point you start being higher than the bosses (somewhere in the 60's range I beleive).

Oh yeah... I guess I could include these..

Initial D Version 2 Arcade Stage
-> Top 100 North America Irohazaka Downhill Dry (89th)
-> Top 100 North America Akagi Downhill Dry (84th)
-> Top 150 North America Akina Downhill Dry (143rd)

Those are probably my best "top" times. I'm one of the top 10 players in the USA East Coast in Arcade Stage, I was actually getting much better and probably could have gone higher if I didn't transfer my cards to Version 3. I know there is a guy in South Carolina, one in VA Beach, and two or three in New Jersey that could beat me consistently. I also have a ton of records for individual cars, like the Mazda RX7 FC Infini and other cars. I could list a lot of them here but it probably doesn't matter :E I'm damn good at this game though.

And just for a frame of mind; if you include just individual players, my times would be a bit higher, probably into the 50-60 range in the first two, but there are some guys who use different cars and can still run insane times with them.

Montreal and Toronto have the best players in North America, but it just so happens they have the cheapest price per game (50/75 Canadian), whereas Vancouver players pay 1 buck, and practically all US machines are running 1 buck/game. It does make a difference for practice purposes.

Can't say that I've done anything that challenging, never thought about it though. The only thing that comes to mind is the GC version of Zelda:OoT, Zelda: Master Quest I believe it was called. I have to say that game was considerably more challenging than the original. Nothing too grand though. :(

Reading through this thread though makes me want to go back and play through some of my old games again. If only my ps2 would work. :(

Jesus H. Christ....I am being punished for my ignorance. Here I was thinking I was going to get a repreive and a good chance to level up, get some items....
However....

The second tank battle in FH is a nightmare. I have Squall/Quistis/Rinoa for the team (can't change members, the other 3 were the missile base team). Squall is the main source of damage here, as the boss is immune to Micro Missiles and Degenerator, and Rinoa sucks hard before Invincible Moon.

The tank does ungodly damage. Its either a 850 damage Beam Cannon or a 400 damage gun shot every turn. It has 7000 HP total, and a regular Renzokuken does about 800-1000 damage. The other way to win this fight is to simply outlast it until it blows its self up, but thats not gonna happen anytime soon since I have no way to heal mid battle.

Man....just when I get like 10 minutes away from the next big break, this fucker is kicking my ass all over the place.

Uh, 196% isn't the highest you can get in CSotN...I've gotten 200+% ...it was like 200.1 or something, totally legit! I remember my buddy pulled off some bull shit by floating through the wall and getting like 210% or something, but this wasn't the case for me.

There are glitches that allow for more percentage yes, and most are not very hard to do, but 196% is the regular 'full percentage'.

A good example of getting more % is the very upper left of the inverted castle. If you use form of wolf to swim around in the air near the ceiling, the game will register that you are actually above the roof and you get percentages for the rooms above you. Likewise, its easy to fall through the floor in some areas as well.

So thats why i could never get a ful 200% in SOTN, shit, I spent months running around trying to see what I missed.
Beating MGS2 on European Extreme was pretty tough for me, ZOE2 was pretty hard too. And Battletoads in Battlemaniacs for the SNES owned me for years untill i finally beat it recently, fucking bike level.
Myself and my Dad used to fight over who'd get to play the NES all the time, he always won. :(

No, you don't suck as I remember having a hell of a time trying to fight Knightmare on Hard mode. Basically, once you learn a few key factors Knightmare becomes relatively easy. The main problem I had was that I couldn't refill my Devil Trigger fast enough to launch an effective counter attack but once you learn and abuse the Grenade Gun/Stinger trick everything becomes a lot easier. Once you've launched a Grenade at Knightmare's shell immediately do a Stinger to reduce the recovery time and even though you won't be doing any damage to Knightmare you'll recover your Devil Trigger really fast. Once you've filled your Devil Trigger it's just a matter of biding your time for a good moment to strike once you've exposed his core.

Try a No Sphere Grid game in FFX, Red. I managed to do it after I had the beat the game a few times (I was obsessed with playing it back then) and I think the hardest part was when you get to Evrae. Rape plz. :(

If you can manage to get some Underdog Spirits, Rikku becomes infinitly more usefull during the game as her being able to mix them for Trio of 9999 will be the only thing that let's you kill off the later bosses.

I didn't have my FFX No Sphere Grid listed?

Ooops, I didn't. :l

I did that one last year. It wasn't too bad as you said, especially once you could start making weapons with initiative. Evrae was the only boss I resorted to Trio Of 9999 on. Everything else was pretty basic, mostly just good use of Yuna, her Aeons, and knowing what a lot of the different Mix combinations are. Going into a boss battle with everyone at full Overdrive is a guaranteed win vs most of the bosses in the game, even Jecht.

I leveled up a bit to get some more HP to buy me some more time to get in some damage with regular attacks, and it helped, but I still need to get in 1 or 2 more Renzokukens to finish it off. Going into the battle with Squall's HP already at yellow is too risky as he may die before he even gets 1 Renzokuken off.

Leveling up helped a bit with Rinoa's Angelo Cannon, but Quistis is still stuck with a 300-500 damage Eye Laser. I can't beleive how many of her limits do nothing against this boss. :cry
