Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
So what exactly is BECK? I only had time to watch the intro, and now I have it stuck in my head. What's the story, and why am I so intrigued based on its intro alone...

First episode of Genshiken I watched and enjoyed, although the premise is a bit different, I like the characters and it's pretty funny
Defenitely a keeper, probably going to sleep up on a lot of people, so get on the bandwagon now?
I think next is Yakitate, so I'm looking forward to that.
The first two minutes.. what the hell. This is hilarious.
ROFL AND THE REST. HILARIOUS.
IT'S RYOUSUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, went through some more new stuff.
Kannaduki no Miko 2 - I REALLY like what they're doing with this, and they really cut through the crap. They accomplish in two eps what would normally take ten in your usual anime of this nature (not that this is usual... it's like Maria-sama x Yamibou x mecha). Personally highly recommended, but it probably won't strike everyone's fancy. And finally, I like what SS does with the ED karaoke.
Gankutsuou 2 - awesome.
Uta-Kata 2 - more ehh from me... it's kinda lame, I guess...
School Rumble 2 - still charming, but losing a little bit of novelty. Not nearly as energetic as the first episode.
Tactics 1 - nice art/mythology, but yaoi~
Edit: Grenadier 1 - utterly ridiculous. I suggest you pass on this.

Grenadier is basically Vash The Stampede switching with a ridiculously huge breasted woman.
It's alright but meh.

Too bad we all have to wait until the new network has aired the original 17 episodes before any new episodes air.Doom wrote:Champloo 17 finally subbed and it was great. Finally enough to push Champloo over Samurai 7 for me since Champloo gets better and better, while Samurai 7's inconsistencies are a bit putting off.
Mai-Hime episode 3=:E:E:E
Mikoto is my favorite character by far and I completely love the sword she's wielding but I'm a big whore for large swords. The design work for this show is so intriguing and the music is some of Kajura's best. It's really refreshing to hear something that's different from her typical Beetrain works.

You forgot Zipang. Switch Yakitate and Kannazuki no Miko and put School Rumble Higher than Mai HiME and you've got my list. Wow, Doom and I agreeDoom wrote:Yeah but the action is like... unbelievable to a fault.

Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
You forgot Viewtiful Joe, Doom.
My list:
1. Yakitate!! Japan - caught me by surprise a lot, I'm reading the manga and I love it. I'll definiately keep watching this. It's my first cooking anime, so the idea seems kinda fresh to me.
2. Gankutsuou/The Count of Monte Cristo - pure, absolutely badass style retelling a classic book in a different setting and time. I will keep watching, I have high expectations, hopefully Gonzo won't fuck it up.
3. Gundam Seed Desiny - There's not much to say about this other than that it is the sequal of my favorite Gundam tv series, so I am sure I'll like it a lot, especially since it's a continuation and has old characters returning.
4. Beck - Interesting story. Characters seem moderately likeable, but the story and plot seem pretty solid. It kind of looks like a more serious version of Detroit Rock City but animated.
5. Bleach - seen two episodes. And it's pretty meh-ish at this point to tell you the truth. I'm just not all that interested in another anime where the characters fight enemy after enemy and the show has over 100 episodes. One Piece is my series for that, I stopped watching Naruto.
6. Viewtiful Joe - I saw the raw for episode one. The style is kinda...I don't know. It's nice that they have the style of the games, but it just feels wierd having the characters look like that for some reason. I didn't understand what they were saying, but otherwise I thought it was alright. I heard I'm not missing much when it comes to story though, so that's good.
7. Mai Hime - started watching the first 5 minutes and started watching RE Cutie Honey after viewing the intro. Meh. Since so many people are spooging over this, I'll finish watching it later.
Now the only new anime series left for me to try out (that I'm interested in atleast) is School Rumble.

I can't wait to see what she does in episode 3.
~*Hai! Back to Japan!
Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
Maybe I should use that temp sig that Mikey made for me as the quote pretty much sums up the main reason why I like Mai-hime.
Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
I wonder if this setback will throw off Geneon's plans for future Samurai Champloo DVD's. Wouldn't they need all of the Japanese DVD's to be released in order to make the North American DVD?

Initial D 7 and 8 are out.
FINALLY a KEISUKE RACE!!!! JOY TO THE WORLD.
Does anyone else who is watching this think that Iketani, Kenji, and Itsuki were all drawn so horribly... they look so fat now, while Takumi, Keisuke and Ryousuke are all pretty much the same with angular chins and faces. Even Kyoko was a bit.. I dunno, different. A lot different than the manga.

It's actually very refreshing to hear music that is not associated with Beetrain from Kajiura. The music in Mai-hime reminds me of her works on Aquarian Age, which I absolutely loved (the music that is).Doom wrote:Eh, watched HiME 3... still not particularly impressed by anything except for the fact that Kajiura is finally coming off as more dynamic with her work here. That and Mikoto's fighting style is cool. But that's about it.
Mikey's sig for me pretty much sums up my opinion of Mikoto and pretty much Mai-hime for me.
Has anybody checked out Grenadier yet? I've yet to watch it for myself but I've heard as well as seen images of it that makes it quite amusing. The action sequences look interesting with the main heroine bouncing bullets off her breast to reload her gun.

Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
I've asked the same question but I've forgotten the answer already. I think it was to help seperate the general anime discussion and not let one thread get too big. Personally, I don't think there's much of a difference in the first place.
