I’ve made it to disc 2. It’s pretty amusing that they’ve put so little effort into updating the game for this “remaster” that the thing still shows memory card slots and which disc you’re on.
Finished! Totally cheesed the final boss, but I’m just happy I made it to the end of this.
The guy who complained that the game was too easy and they finished it in 5 hours must have either been following a guide to the word or have already played through the game tons of times. They also will have had all the cheats (including no battles) on the entire time.
I rushed through it myself, with battle boost on frequently and 3x speed on almost the entire way. I only really deviated from the most linear path to get optional GFs and okay a few games of cards. 21 hours on the clock in the end. To rush though with all the cheats on and then complain on social media that the game is too short is a very bold move.
All in all, I’m glad I replayed FF8. Reminds me why I liked it. The low res backgrounds also very quickly become unnoticeable.

It did. I got dualshock 1 for Christmas 99 and FFVIII was the first game I played with it.
FFVII and Tactics are the only PS FF's without analog. Tactics doesn't need it. I miss using analog when playing VII.
Well I'm sure I played originally without analog, so maybe that's why I don't recognize it as a new issue as much (though I'm sure I replayed on PS2 at some point).
Analog was such a big thing in the ps1 days that Resident Evil 1 and 2 were re-released with analog controls.
There was an entire game made specifically for the Dualshock and you could not play the game without owning one. It's why so many transitioned to buying Dualshocks.
Rumble and analog controls were a massive thing in that generation thanks to the N64.
Originally Sony put out the analog controller but it had no rumble, but then they added rumble and named it the Dualshock, which it is still called to this day. We're on Dualshock 4 now.
Thanks for coming to my gaming history TED talk!

I remember the DualShock rumble version of the controller coming in around the time Gran Turismo released and being one of the main reasons I bought that game.

Remember how the FFVIII demo had different music during the escape from the big robot thing than the actual game had? Because it sounded like it ripped off music from... The Rock, or something?
