Talk about anything here that there isn't another specific forum for. General chit-chat between the SG regulars. The Moderators will be sad pandas if you spam... too much.
Yesterday I was given the sad news that Time (Serge to me, Abe on here since 2004) passed away. As SG was the place that I first met him, I thought I'd pass this on to others here who may not move in the same social media circles.
I'm devastated to hear this..... I got to hang out with Tim several times when we lived near each other in Japan back in 2004 and he was a really, really good dude. I can't believe how sudden this is... RIP Tim.
While he wasn't a regular on SG in recent years (to be fair, only a few are), he had a huge presence on the internet and therefore my general day-to-day life. Though he never had the money to donate to my Talking Real charity gaming marathons, he'd always be there watching way more than a sane person should, Tweeting us encouragement, laughing along at our bad jokes, being vulgar and attempting to get others to watch. Though Serge did spend a lot of time on his own, he had a great ability to bring people together. He's was one of the cornerstones of the internet, and for that he'll be missed by tons of people, all with their own anecdotes as to why he was cool.
I feel glad that I finally got to meet the guy in Tokyo earlier this year, after over ten years of ha;f-made and abandoned plans one way or the other.
On our next charity marathon (which Serge had retweeted promos for already), we're going to have a massive dedication to him. Get some Japanese booze, and toast him
It was Tim's birthday last week. I was having such a crazy week/day and overwhelmed by other stuff that I got super upset seeing the notification on fb for his birthday. Now I feel bad about it.
Tim was always very opinionated. When I was younger and softer I think it rubbed me the wrong way, but I grew to appreciate his opinions on things. I find myself missing them a lot, and often wondering what his opinions on things would be. Like today, I wondered what kind of stuff he'd say about Rob Ford.
I actually didn't find it upsetting. It mainly reminded me of when we did a 24 hour Talking Real show on his birthday two years back, and surprised him with a birthday cake and song. Obviously he couldn't actually eat the cake, but he still seemed to appreciate it
