Blu-Ray is a necessary next-gen feature.

Post by WaWard »

Here's concrete proof.

Killzone levels are 2Gigs each. Their devs say their game would be impossible to make on the 360. Same goes with Heavenly Sword, that uses 11 gigs of audio.

Now look at this.

http://360.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=11367

Lost Odyssey, a deriviative JRPG on the 360 that no one will play, spans 4 DVDs. Obviously this game needed blu-ray, but they were stuck using last gen tech and had to do this.

Pretty sad that some people question debate the necessity of the ps3's Blu-Ray drive.

I really wonder how 360 games will handle the data problem in 3 years. LO2 will probably use 10 DVDs :l!

Blu Ray is necessary. That's why Sony is currently making the only worthwhile consoles out there.

I actually rofl'd when I saw the options of this poll :l

But yes, blu-ray is is to DVD what DVD was to CD. PS3 decided to go with next gen storage rather than last, just like the PS2 did.

Bought my PS3 today btw 8)

If the RDM posts in this thread, will his opinion be altered to seem pro-Sony?

But yes, Blu-Ray does store more than DVD.

If only there was something to store on it.

See even you think it's necessary.

Somewhat on topic, I’m really curious to see what happens with Mass Effect. From the sound of all the details being released for the game it sounds almost overwhelmingly expansive, I’m very curious to see if Bioware will be able to fit it all on one disc.

The RDM didn't say it was neccessary. The two consoles that are actually having a successful generation don't seem to need it one bit.

You mean PS2 and PSP? That's true, but the clock's running out on them.

I'm not even sure if such a game can come out on DVD. They'll probably can it at the last minute. :l

Mass Effect is going to be amazing. I dunno if it'll be on 1 DVD, but the fuck I care. As long as it's good, which it will be, it doesn't matter. Bioware has never made a game that hasn't been worth a purchase.

Yes, because the 360 doesn't seem to need Blu-Ray at all. We'll just cram any good game the system has on multiple DVD's! :sarc This is going to bite the 360 in the ass when the PS3 starts picking up momentum.

On another note I really appreciate the fact that Lost Odyssey will sport both language tracks and I hope more companies decide to do the same thing. I don't think the PS3 will have any storage capacity issues so I don't see any issues with including multiple language tracks.

U show them! Multiple DVDs are unnacceptable and should not be endorsed by anyone. It is not a solution, it's a problem!

A multi-disc game is not a problem but it all depends on how many discs there are. Anything over 4 DVD's is a step back. Would you consider a 10 DVD game acceptable? I sure as hell wouldn't. It's not too big of a deal now but when PS3 goes into full swing with it's far more superior looking games the X360 is going to have to do a lot more than what it's doing now to compete. Their strategy worked really well for them in the short term but as time progress I think the PS3 will be able to overtake them because they are delivering true next gen gaming.

That was ten years ago, and no rival was doing any better at the time.
Now we have PS3, while all other consoles are still living in 1997.

Yeah seriously. Back then your choice was 4 CDs or an overpriced cartridge. :l

The RDM still doesn't give a shit about disk swapping. It's not optimal, but it wouldn't affect his decision to purchase a game. Taking 4 seconds to swap a disk is negligable.

How about the problem that all that 4 disc packaging is really crap. The inside discs are always popping out because the holders aren't good enough.

But it ruins the idea of the controllers being wireless.
What's the point of this simulated "freedom" when you keep having to go back to the console to swap disks in and out?

You have to do it 4 times in the span of the game.

Most people have to go up to the system to turn the power on more times than that in a run through a game.

Except that has been eliminated now, hasn't it?
