Holiday Discussion 2G7 (not applicable to many)

Post by DarloJo »

Chris said I could make this thread before anyone moans...

OK, I think we have it sorted :D After finding nice villas, enquiring (Batesy's done all of it despite me making the lj entries), and finding they're available, we (Batesy) kept going to book stuff to be told it was no longer free. Argh! Anyway, the 5 definites (me, Stel, Batesy, Joe and Chris) have agreed on http://nerjavillas4rent.co.uk/Englsh%20 ... _abril.htm. It's a shame we couldn't get a slightly bigger place to keep options open for other people, but everything's getting booked up and none of us want to spend loads if not many people come. It's not too far out (checked the maps and asked) and it has everything we want. Well, apart from a lemon tree, and we need to see if they have Fizz! But yeah, by suggestion of Chris to keep things off LJ, I've made this thread about it. All discussion will be here from now on. The 6th place, well Andy wanted it and is more likely but Adam said he wasn't completely ruled out, so I'm just letting you guys know the deal too.

Let's just hope she doesn't rent this one to someone else too :p

The villas definitely booked now (well the deposits not yet paid but Joannes gonna sort that once she can reply to the email she has), so unless she changes her mind and decides it's booked we're going http://nerjavillas4rent.co.uk/Englsh%20 ... _abril.htm

Yarrr :E

Anyway just to let people know, I phoned the woman in Spain (hi phone bill :p) to sort out payment for the deposit, and it turns out she's northern :D And was really happy cos she didn't expect me to be northern too, lol. I thought she'd be Spanish but turns out she just lives there cos her husband's Spanish.

Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway back to the point, villa deposit is sorted, it's all definite :D Can look into flight times and crap soon.

Cumbria - like just straight West from here I suppose. No discount, but her northern card machine is rejecting my northern credit card for the deposit (but I have enough on it) so I'm gonna have to sort it out another way :(

I'm not sure if any of that was serious (apart from the fiddling kids thing :() but there's an extra sofabed in the villa, and unless Andy comes there might be a spare bed anyway.

But don't bring any kids :E

Holiday status

Well the deposit has been sent and recieved, and everything is confirmed now.

So, us northerners (me, Stel and Batesy) have flights booked now.

Departing:
From Newcastle (NCL) to Malaga (AGP)
Saturday, 16 Jun 07
Flight TOM 1221
Depart 15:10 Newcastle (NCL)
Arrive 19:30 Malaga (AGP)

Returning:
From Malaga (AGP) to Newcastle (NCL)
Saturday, 30 Jun 07
Flight TOM 1222
Depart 20:15 Malaga (AGP)
Arrive 22:25 Newcastle (NCL)

Flight info

Just so you guys can work around those times. We can't get into the villa til 4pm and have to leave by 10am, but we can waste some of the day getting back to the airport on the way back. Flights are all around 120-130 at the cheapest, but I've not checked from London airports so I dunno if they'll be better or worse for you guys. Our cheapest option was thomsonfly.com, who also have a 25 kilo baggage limit instead of 20. Gets!

Once we arrive

Also she's basically said we can have a minibus from the airport which they'll provide, which is about 15 euros each (from what I remember) for the 6 of us. If anyone else comes, they're welcome to, but some people will have to get the bus then cos they don't want more than 6 people staying. It's not bad by public transport as long as someone who's been to Nerja before stays with the others. Or, obviously if people arrive after a week or whatever then this'll be the case anyway. I think it's a good idea to get this minibus though so we know where the villa is straight away.

Extra people who want to come

We have 6 beds in total, and 5 of us (me, Stel, Batesy, Joe and Chris) have called the first five. I'm assuming Andy will be coming for the final bed. However Char's showed interest but I dunno what the deal is with the rave thing he's going to, and the same applies to Adam. Stine also said she might come for a bit and Joe was gonna sleep on the sofa to offer her his bed.

There's technically an extra sofa bed, but when I enquired she said it was crap in a little room with no door, and that she doesn't want anyone else staying there. This is why we have to pretend there's six at the most (regarding the airport minibus when we arrive) :p But provided people don't mind sofas/floors/lilo in pool then nobody has a problem. I call a sun lounger during the day before they're all taken though! :E

I had a quick look for flights from London to Malaga (just specified any airport cos I dunno which is best for everyone) and found the following:

- Your best bet is EasyJet I think... around £110 and at convenient times which minimise waiting for both groups
- Monarch airlines had some for about £90 but would involve waiting around overnight at a pretty boring airport
- Thomsonfly.com had some for about £90 but again would mean you not arriving til the day after and going home a day early
- They were about £140 with xl.com, but only £50 deposit is needed upon booking and the rest is payable 8 weeks before. Dunno if that would make life easier for anyone
- All the other budget airlines are either at crap times or about £130-£140+... I searched all the ones I could think of from the top of my head anyway, might have missed some

(We ended up paying about £130 each to fly from up north as a guide... it was still cheaper, and less effort, than paying to travel to fly from the south though :p)

Indeed - and Andy has actually said to me - in a non-joking context - that he would rather play ITG2 than Supernova.

I still refuse to play it, right now. Maybe one day this might change.

ANYWAY. Where is the holiday deskcushion? :boo
