Badger holiday discussion

Post by DarloJo »

Since LJ sucks when you get past about 50 comments, Chris said I should make a thread here. If this applies to you, you'll know what it's about :p

Shortlist of people so far:

Me
Batesy (early July preferably)
Adam (early July preferably)
Chris
Stel
Andy
Matt
Joe (early July)
Lap (not August)
Rachel (late July)
Ant (early July)

(Mods, edit this as people update, if you like :p)

OK, here goes...

From what I said on LJ originally:

I like how Nerja wasn't too touristy (it still seemed 'Spanish', rather than a version of Blackpool with nicer weather), but was still tourist-friendly (with like, clubs and stuff, stuff for us to do). Somewhere like that again would be nice, I think. A villa (maybe more than one again) would be perfect, especially if there was a pool again :D Somewhere near the beach, nice weather (but not stupidly hot, think of us fair skinned people!), shops, places to go and eat/drink, other places nearby... (like waterparks, theme parks, places with other shops, etc etc) would be good. So yeah, I dunno what everyone else wants, but that's what I'd like personally.

One thing I would ask, is can we not go to Rimini please :( I've not been myself, but the general idea I've got from people is that there isn't enough to do for two weeks, nowhere really to go out on a night, and it's not exactly full of villas. Plus spending the majority of the holiday in an arcade isn't fun :( I'd quite gladly go to Nerja, but we've got a whole world out there, so we might as well go somewhere different (but not too expensive) I guess?

What people are thinking generally:

No Bemani/arcades
Pool would be great, private preferably
Somewhere with shops
Villas, big villas
Balance of touristy stuff but not a place that's ruined by over-touristyness :p
Somewhere with decent transport, meaning we can get to big towns, places with stuff like theme parks, waterparks, etc
A beach, of course

Suggestions for places:

Algarve
Villamartin, near Torrevieja in Spain

Spain is currently being favoured because of its tequila, and cheap villas :E

From now on, I'm doing no more organising, everyone please just input from now on!

Also mentioning that we have a possible place in Villamartin that will probably work out at around £100 - £120, depending on how many people are going, for 2 weeks in July.

If I'm still working for an agency, I could probably wangle 2 weeks off :E
I'll need to sort out dates for SG World after we've sorted out the dates for this.

I've already made one suggestion but is being overlooked in favour of tequila and lower prices so I can't exactly moan there! :frank Torrevieja is a great place. They serve litre glasses of beer and alot of decent food and ice cream as well as having a massive fun fair and Aquopolis nearby.

This is still early stages though so people at least have plenty of time to realise or work out if they can go. I assume it'll be around same time as past two years, start of July.

Merry Christmas! :puff

Anywhere's good for me, as long as there are at least some people who don't want to play any Bemani (and I'm sure there will be).
It'll be good to get out of the fucking country, haven't done it in ages :}

When are we thinking of booking?

I think the past two years the bookings have always been final by the end of April. There's still time to discuss it further but obviously the sooner the better with holiday bookings.
I think there should be shortlist compiled so that research can be done about all the places so that nothing is dismissed too quickly. I am throwing in Greece and I shall be doing some research about that ...... soon. Too busy for the next week or so.

As Lap says Greece, I would unanimously vote for Corfu but for alot of us that would be a little too high on costs in terms of getting there and living for 1/2 weeks.

But of course! Let him do the research :puff

Corfu is the *only* place to go if you are considering Greek islands, and their crap toilet systems.

I don't think I can make it if it's in July, if I keep my current job I finish around the 20th =/

If we go to Spain anywhere near Alicante would be nice, and actually I'm gonna ask my former housemate if she knows people renting villas there... She might be able to get us something cheap :ruroken

Hmmm can't remember if I had anything else to say... :erm But yeah, Spain plz. :love

I just got an email back from the owner of the villa in Villamartin and she confirmed that taxi's are available and also that you can get buses to vaious places from the beach that the shuttle bus runs to.

Villamartin is near Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca. About 40 minutes away from Alicante airport.

Happy birthday Chi :E

This is all sounding good, with Rachel's contacts for cheap villas, and buses to places, etc.

My only reservation with somewhere like Corfu is how hot it is... I was piling on the factor 25 in Spain :P But I'm sure us fair skinned people would survive either way :E

As long as you keep putting the sun tan cream on you'd be fine in Greece, obviously it's a lot hotter than Spain but you just have to spend more time in the pool/sea.

Going back to Chris' question before, who is on the shortlist for coming? We can't really look for villas/prices until we have a rough idea.

I definately want to go so I'm on the shortlist.

What, and be accused of "stalking" him again...? XD

Anyway... SGWC (SG World Cruise)!

Sadly, I'm not likely to be able to come :( It's bloody difficult to get full weeks off from work (there is always the odd day that I need to be around for), even in the summer. Pantsu.

Blackpool sounds nice. I like spending time around a lot of pikeys.

I'm throwing in Hong Kong because I can and because it's awesome there. How about Australia. Fuse might be going there so we could visit him. Jamaica and Columbia, perhaps Chile, are all good with me.

I think Spain is still favourite so I'm going to suggest Madeira Islands which looks nice and also Sicilly so I can make it with some Mafia girls and then get horribly tortured to my bloody death.

I knew it was in Portugal except I forgot to mention it. It was because Spain was favourite that I suggested something close by to that, even though the islands are further south than the mainland.
Thought I'd clear that up. Thanks for pointing it out anyway.
