Men win IQ test in battle of sexes

That really doesn't surprise me one bit. I've always been dubious of a previous study (and much heralded in the media, since it lauds females and like so many things in society, denigrates males) that stated females were smarter than men. Women in general are more proficient in the liberal arts than men, while men dominate most, if not all, things mathematical and scientific. However there are many more men in the liberal arts fields than there are women in the scientific fields, in sheer number and percentages. Some would say it's comparing apples to oranges, but personally I believe science requires vastly more critical thinking than anything you will find in the liberal arts fields. It still astonishes me how profoundly intelligent and ingenious many of the key scientific figures of the past were able to discover and prove their pioneering ideas.
Liebniz (or Newton, whatever) discovering how to find the slope of a nonlinear curve (has WAY more applications than you can imagine, and is pretty much the cornerstone of calculus), the discovery than Newtonian mechanics is just a special case of quantum mechanics, Einstein's special theory of relativity which discusses the nonlinear passing of time, these are just a few of myriad discoveries/breakthroughs that required thinking out of the box, transcending it altogether. I mean, think about it, in your everyday experiences, you kind of just assumed as fact that time was linear, that one second was no different in temporal length than another second (which in everyday experiences is true, but absolutely wrong in the most general case). Yet Einstein had a little bit of madness, a little bit of fantastic thinking, and most importantly the brainpower/ingenuity/whatever to propose and substantiate such a claim.
Contrast this with the liberal arts. Actually someone who knows more about liberal artsy stuff please do, as I have way less experience in this than the other, but even pre-college, when I was taught about 50/50 liberal/science I still cannot recall learning about anything in English that blew my mind. I'm not saying liberal arts like English or history require no critical thought. On the contrary, I know they also require profound intellect, I'm just saying IMO the best past advances in science/related fields are in a rank all their own. It's no mistake that the vast majority of scientific advances have been from males.
I have no real reason for writing this, I stopped playing World of Warcraft so I thought I'd post about whatever came to mind to fill the void. That and I like discussion about topics.

True, the vast majority of scientific advances have been from males, but women have only had access to Education for what, 50, 100 years?
That and Society still put a pressure on women, telling them they should study 'artistic' stuff rather than sciences and trying to make them feel guilty when they favour studies over raising kids and taking care or their family...

Now I will just resist the temptation to list scientific advances by females in the last 100 years

It's also no mistake to say that, in more ways than one, science has been a male dominated field for a long time, and still is in certain respects. Women have been, and still very often are, from an early age discouraged from pursuing math and science.Blue Nocturne wrote: It's no mistake that the vast majority of scientific advances have been from males.
Of course, I'm not saying this study is wrong. It could very well be correct, but your examples are poor, and isolating social factors as a potential root cause is foolish.
The TBB offers you tea and biscuits.
Women are coming to realise that they are the true rulers of the world, though most still prefer to drink alcohol over the recommended limit and read Heat magazine willingly and with great satisfaction.
Those who have come to realise this rather obvious but life changing truth are often referred to as bitches and lesbians and usually have a poor and unsatisfying sex life. Ironically, a good sex life for women has only been fathomable since the 1960's when women started to realise that they, in fact, are the true rulers of the world.
However, none of the above makes any difference to the fact that we are all human, and as such, regardless of whether it is Men who rule or Women who rule, the situation, and results, would be exactly the same.
If all women realised it, life would change, but only on individual roles. I am a no one and will stay that way, but Arnold Schwarzegger's wife would be earning more than he is.

What's the point of bringing up scientific figureheads of the past who were all male when women have basically been repressed since . . . ever?
When it comes down to it why do we put such great importance on logical/mathematical/scientific thinking? Look at the wonderful world we're all working to destroy and tell me all of that is more important than a connectedness to a more empathetic perspective.
I think intelligence is relative. You have many functioning parts of a brain for a reason, and excersizing specifics certainly dosn't imply superiority, unless of course you have a society built around a penis

This study is practically irrelevant in my opinion, and I would say the same thing were it a study "proving" that women are more intelligent than men (because the best leap forward for women will come when militant feminists stop trying to put us on a higher plane, anyway).
The obvious flaws in the logic of the study and of the examples provided have already been mentioned. It's almost shocking that people insist on continuing with these debates that don't get us anywhere. The point is always, in the end, that both males and females in our society need better education and wider access to it, and that we shouldn't try to confine one gender to a specific sphere.
Of course, this is coming from a girl who can't stand math and science classes, but I like to think that's my prerogative regardless.

I seem to remember agreeing to do this thing on Tuesday, but I can't remember what it is now... Remind me what it is, the answer is probably still yes.
It doesn't matter if we miss that one but we certainly need to go to Ant & Dec's Gameshow Marathon next Thursday. I've got the day off so I can get to South Bank by 6.Bazz wrote:Stop giving away my secret name!Damien wrote:Nah, it's Dennis Norden all the way.Lap wrote:I've always said that if I were a women I'd be a lesbian. Well, women don't have penises, unfortunately. But they do have PMS. And the only thing worse than PMS is double PMS (yours and your partner's).Lap wrote:I've always said that if I were a women I'd be a lesbian. Back to the IQ thing - I've heard on several isolated occasions from different sources that the first IQ tests were pwned by women, so the men restructured them cuz they didn't like being pwned by women. I have no idea as to the vailidity of myth, but it's really not so far fetched.

Stripping should be an Olympic sport.
It's one of the newer ones as they had to do it naked back in the day, but only men competed and I don't need to see them stripping.
Also, apart from the gymnastics there are not fit girls in the olympics. All the sports need women to bulk up and look more like a man. Let's balance this out. Let stripping be considered an olympic sport, and have it be a women only sport.

Would add a certain layer of suspense not being able to see behind those big black bars wouldn't you think? Imagine trying to figure out who won a sprint for example, you'd have to wait for the announcer to tell you! It might add seconds of interest to an already boring event!if they had nude olympic the whole thing would be censored wouldnt it? it be like patches of skin for hours with no distinct anytihng.

suspense definitely i suppose, it would be like what the hell am i watching is that guy/girl hitting water or is that the track? the people in porn are people who couldnt get a job as an actor/tress. though i doubt they are very lazy considering what they do...

I just want to comment that the UK has such a bizarre use of the word "fit" that one could actually utter the sentence "there are not fit girls in the olympics" and have it make some semblance of sense. Like I can understand using the word "fit" in the UK sense, but not to the point that you could call objectively among the most physically fit people on the planet "not fit." That's just an absurd twist of the word to exclusively meaning "attractive."
