So like where did Matsuno go
I was kinda moving and I missed out on FFXII stuff. But I did read that Matsuno wasn't making FFXII anymore, which sucks alot because I was only looking forward to the game because Matsuno was making it.
Did Garbo kidnap him or something?

Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy XII producer Yasumi Matsuno will be stepping down from his position due to complications with his health. An official statement by Square Enix revealed that the seasoned producer has been ill for a while. However, he will remain on the project as a supervisor. Taking over as executive producer will be Akitoshi Kawazu, an experienced director best known for the SaGa series.
Even before E3, rumors about Matsuno's absence from Square had been circulating, but this is the first time the company has publicly confirmed his status.
"Final Fantasy XII's development producer Yasumi Matsuno has left his position to recover from his illness, and he is currently working as a supervisor [on the game]. His roles in the project are being passed on to the section leaders, and our development staff is working hard on its production. The game is just one step away from completion, so please look forward to it. We are confident that we will deliver a Final Fantasy beyond everybody's imagination on March 16," commented Square Enix in its public statement.
Matsuno also released a statement: "To all the fans that have been waiting for the release of Final Fantasy XII, I'm sorry that its development has been taking an extremely long time. I unfortunately will have to take a step away from the production scene, but the game is progressing in its development under the hands of excellent staffs, including Minagawa, Ito, and Akiyama."
Square Enix's announcement came just one day after the Square Enix Party 2005, where it showed off Final Fantasy XII in a playable format for the first time to the public.
The current Final Fantasy XII staff is as follows:
Executive Producer
Akitoshi Kawazu

It's not as bad as it sounds, apparently the original setup was for Matsuno to produce FFXII and for Hiroyuki Ito (he was the director of FFT btw) to direct. Something happened and Matsuno became the director. Now he's "ill" and Ito is back directing. I don't think this game has a chance in hell of sucking, Matsuno's Vagrant Story and FFT team is still working on the game. What does suck is that eventually if Square actually releases this and Kingdom Hearts II I'm going to end up having to rebuy a PS2 so I can play them

Adequately satisfactory is more a description of a fairly nice cheese sandwich then a game which ruled. Be more positiveKingOfHell wrote:Thats pretty funny, but all those games ruled. I'm hoping that FFXII will be equally adequately satisfactory.Ward wrote:Fragrant Story

Ahhh such optimism back then...himurokoken wrote:Well, the game is pretty much done so Matusno's ideas and input into the game is still there. He'sjust concentrating on the story and so forth now. No big deal.
Matsuno is coming back to make the endgame raid content for FFXIV's new expansion. That's gonna be awesome.

Yuh. A Realm Reborn's series of raids was based off of FFIII with the crystal tower. Heavenward's raids haven't been that direct, but they do have a bunch of references like the war of the magi, Diabolos (who's been a recurring villian, Ozma (boss from FFIX), and Cait Sith. So yeah, Stormblood is going to have raids that have tentatively been titled "Return to Ivalice".

I don't care about Vaan and Penelo. All the characters suck (except Balthier). The story is about a war and should follow characters involved in the war, not a bunch of doofuses off in la-la land, so when they finally meet up with the villain at the end we have no idea where the fcuk he's coming from with his ranting.

Which version of the game was it? A Realm Reborn or before? If it was the 1.0 version of the game, I'd say go and give it another try. It was overhauled tremendously from that version, completely reversing the fate and fortunes of the title.
I've played hundreds of hours and have at no point needed to make friends in the game (though I have). Dungeons and bosses that require more than one player will put you with random other players on the server, most of which won't talk much, other than to share tips. The game is certainly a slow starter and can seem overwhelming at times (like with most MMORPGs) but it quickly gets very vast and rewarding and has several story arcs which hold up against the very best Final Fantasy have offered. I find it a very relaxing game to play, as long as you're not rushing.

It was Realm Reborn. I didn't get very far. It was just starting me off with basic fetch quests/ hunt quest type stuff. So I don't have too much of an idea what it's like past that except talking to the info desk type people in the game, who made it all sound very complicated and like I would have to do a ton of leveling before I could do anything fun.

FFXIV is easy as hell get most stuff done solo. You don't even have to do end game stuff. You can just play through the story and cancel your sub until a few patches come out with more story. The "I don't want to play an MMO" people are really missing out if they enjoy the Final Fantasy series. I actually haven't played in about 6 months, but I went ahead and pre-ordered the $200 physical collector's edition cause I know when I start back up, it's going to be quality.
As far as the gameplay goes, you pretty much have to get to level 30+ for the battle system/job to start coming together and keeping you busy. But it's like that for just about any game tbh.

I kind of forget what it plays like, but isn't the gameplay a lot like FFXII (which I hate)? I know I haven't played it enough to get the full experience, but I don't really see the correlation with other FF games. The experience seemed more similar to western RPGs and other online RPGs.

It's nothing like XII. The only passive attack is auto attack, but that doesn't account for much of your damage. It's all about chaining your techniques and abilities. The correlation with other FF games is it's storytelling and lore. They're not just taking a backseat to running dungeons and your character isn't faceless dude #4324.Lord Golbez wrote:I kind of forget what it plays like, but isn't the gameplay a lot like FFXII (which I hate)? Well you probably played like 5-10 hours of a game that has a shit ton of story content so you obviously didn't see much. Each expansion is pretty much a full single player Final Fantasy story. But I'm not gonna expend anymore energy trying to talk people into giving the game a chance.Lord Golbez wrote:Oh. Right. I had pretty much no techniques at the beginning. That's why it was FFXII like to me. Also, I couldn't tell form the intro that my character isn't faceless dude #1337

Hyperion. I think they made it so the main scenario quests give a ton of experience now in 2.0 so you can catch up easily. There's also something called the Deep Dungeon that is easy exp apparently. I just re-upped my sub tonight after about 6 months of not playing. Time to figure out what I was doingCid wrote:What server are you on? The leveling is really monotonous at the start but I could give it another go if I had a leveling buddy.
When I did the trial I never had a problem finding tons of quests, they were just really boring. Excluding the story ones that were few and far between it was all "take X to Y" and "collect X number of Y." FATEs were kinda neat tho. Also the GCD is so long I always felt like I was sitting there slamming my next combo ability waiting for it to come off cooldown although I'm sure that just takes getting used to I guess.
That's an inherent problem with MMORPGS. People testing them will try from the start, and that's by far the most mundane and confusing section of the entire game. The game really does take a bit of time to warm up and gel, but eventually you'll be juggling a vast list of attacks and abilities.
Apparently, with the next big update (Bloodstorm) you'll be able to skip right to the new content. Not sure how that'll work yet.

Preach it!
Ivalice only goes down in quality.
FFT: Awesome
VS: Overwrought mess of a weapon systembut plot is still well represented and once you get the hang of the dumb chain thing it can be enjoyable. Just ignore all of BioCrimson's and Heretic's stupid time travel fan theories that make no damn sense.
FFTA: Good gameplay. Okay for what it is plot wise. Simple but not patronizingly stupid I mean.
FF12: Train wreck. Matsuno should be embarassed. He should put Alan Smithee on this thing.
Bonus round.
FFTA2: Okay gameplay. Patronizingly insipidly stupid. A random child off the street could probably deliver a better plot.
FFTA Tower Defense: This shouldnt exist...
