Classical Music Thread #89352671

Post by Calbrena »

As I recently went to my parents' for a couple of days I was able to convert some CDs into AACs to put them on my IPod, and I'm currently rediscovering a couple of great stuff.
Last night I was listening to some Satie again, and I must say I absolutely love Gymnopédies (especially I) for some reason. Not sure why though. :? Makes me feel a bit nostalgic but at least it's nice and relaxing and I certainly need that right now (5 exams left, 2 of them tomorrow =/)...
Other than that I recently listened to my Saint-Saëns best of again, and I still enjoy it as much as ever, if not more. Danse Macabre is probably my favourite.

Anyway, what have you guys been listening to recently? Any suggestion on what I should add to my collection? Anything you're rediscovering after ignoring it for years because too busy listening to other stuff or because you couldn't have access to your full CD collection? :?

That is so very French of you, to like Satie and Gymnopedies.
Anyway, I enjoy Chopin. Some of his piano pieces are crazy, but some a very nice.

You know, I don't think #89352671 applies... more like #5, or something.

I don't really have 'phases'... I guess I've been on somewhat of a Rachmaninov kick lately.

I remember listening to the Gymnopédies on mescaline last summer, just staring at the clouds. Good times....

I'm quite liking the 1st movement of the Masquerade Suite by Khachaturian, it has this sinister epic quality to it that makes one feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside.
Mozart's piano concerto is another one that I keep going back to, so perfect.

probably the same reason why you stopped visiting gs once sg reopened ;)

the general gist of sg's shenanigans don't interest me much :p
and my posting in general has been down

and i don't advertise, i've linked like, a grand total of two times? three times? only to genuinely interesting threads

It has to be by far Holst's Jupiter or Mars.

Maybe Albinoni and Tommasi's Adagio in G for Strings and organ.
Barber's Adagio in G as well.

There's something about adagios that really hits a chord with me. (And most people)
