One of them, I have a new favorite every couple months. Usually I get a new one once I finished the series. But at the moment, Naruto is my fav. Its got a great story and is funny as hell

It's not really...funny

Naruto is decent. It has some really good parts on occasion, and some really horrible parts.

I wouldn't say unbefuckinglievably good, but it's certainly redeeming and above the low standards it had before.

I can't watch Naruto. It suffers far too much from the 'lets drag this shit out' disease :{

I started buying the manga releases once they came out (since reading scanned translations on any long series that I'm not omg-whee about is brain rotting) .. it did well in that I got a nice nap while trying to read several volumes :upsd

The whole plot is pretty standard shonen stuff (no big surprises there), but I like the setting/universe, and some of the characters.
And obviously, the manga >>> the anime

Ya, there are times where naruto is boring, like the flash back episodes... there were 4 episodes in a row where it was just flash backs. They are informative, but f-ing annoying. Nartuo can also stretch the battles a bit too, but its not as bad as DBZ... nothing is as bad as that show where the whole series is practically one battle. But I have to argue that Naruto is so funny.. dont care if you dont agree.. its funny.

If you follow the manga there's really not much to look forward to in the anime other than the fight scenes that have the best animation.

I'd say Naruto is also one of my favorite series, but only since parts have been some of the most enjoyable to watch. Honestly, you shouldn't expect anything deep to come from the show.

And I personally prefer the anime to the manga, if only just because I like watching it as a show rather than a comic book. I read the manga a little bit (around where 107-115 occur in the anime), and watching it felt much more boring since I knew what would happen. Therefore, I think there's a bit of a bias between the manga readers. A fresh comic book will always be more fun than a series you've basically already seen before. I started watching the anime and have been since then (with a brief 6 month hiatus from 102+ until a few weeks ago), and tried reading the manga to get up to speed. It really wasn't as fun as watching the show, which was all I liked Naruto for, really.

There is a bit of bias for people who have read the manga before watching the anime, however, it wouldn't hurt if the anime had better execution to overcome this bias. There have been several animes where I loved the manga but the anime turned out to be much better.

I like the anime over the manga because I like seeing fight scenes animated. It didn't bore me that i knew what was coming, only if I knew what was coming was going to be boring.

The current fight has been pretty decent, even the flashbacks were not as bad as I thought they would be...with the manga, it felt like it went on forever.

On the other hand, this entire arc so far has been mindblowing in terms of animation quality and execution, and I've loved it. I looked forward to it a lot from reading in the manga, and it lived up to my expectations. In the manga I didn't even realise when
Kimimaro had died :(
So I just watched 133 yesterday. Wow.

Granted they seem to have run low on their budget in that faces were drawn pretty horribly throughout the entire episode, but the animation was still top notch.

I liked it, one of the best eps yet.

The faces were done different because they have different animators throughout the entire show. Sometimes not much is changed.. but I think they used the animator for these few episodes because they might be better at fighting. I didn't like the animation myself, it looked a lot like Fooly Cooly. Which I didn't like much either.

I don't understand why do people like the manga more than the anime.
I've now read the manga up the point where the anime is, aside from a few chapters which I'm missing... and...

It's the same shit.
The same damn flashbacks.
The same damn everything.
Minus animated and often feels like it's missing a page.

:sadwiz

EDIT: wtfz, no sadwiz?
This makes me a sad wizard indeed! :sadpanda

I don't like the manga more than the anime. In fact, I hated this portion of the manga intensely, whereas I'm quite enjoying the anime.

I don't have much of an imagination, and I don't go in to look for details, so often action in manga just doesn't mean anything to me. When it's actually shown, I like it.

In the manga version, it's easier to skip pages during the boring parts :E
+ the art is consistently better.

But the good thing with the anime version is that you can watch it along with friends ^_^

ya.. it is hard to read manga with a group of friends. *picturing my friends crouded around a book* ... that would almost be worth the laughs if I wouldn't want to kill on of them.

I like the anime better if they are the same. Like Im reading Fruits Basket and the manga gets more depth so i like that part about it, but watch the show is always fun. Its hard to compare the two things because it kinda depends on the mood your in.. if you want to read or watch tv (or computer in some cases)

sometimes, i can see your point. But I love it sometimes because you can sit there are laugh and make fun of any stupid parts ect ect and of course you get to rant right after the episode is done.. so thats a plus

im half n' half on this... some anime is fun to watch with your friends, usually comedies, but other stuff i.e. GITS: SAC i couldnt watch with someone else, and really any other show where you kind of need to immerse yourself in the plot to get the full effect. I can't do that unless i watch it alone. Also watching something with your friend that either you or him/her has watched is RETARDED.

Especially if the person who have already seen it keeps spoiling the other one :l

... So, is Naruto comedy, or something you have to immerse yourself into, in your opinion? ^_^
Personally, as I said, I watch it with friends, it's more fun, even the dramatic fighting parts. There is this friend of mine (a nice girl, but definetely not the rational/intellectual type, contrary to the other geeks I consort with) who is like a child, overreacting emotionnally to anything happening on the screen, swearing when a bad guy does something nasty, cheering when they get their ass kicked... Such kind of innocent, spontaneous enthusiasm is pretty contagious :D (helps ignoring the clicheed and the somewhat boring parts of the show)

So you would hate people with a Naruto-like personality in real life ?

Maybe you take those shows too seriously ?
I'd hate to have people acting like that when I watch serious stuff like, say, GitS (then again, same friend was very calm during this one, didn't say a word, just watched in awe - and no, didn't get asleep), but Naruto is a kids show, it's meant to be watched in a childlike emotional state.
Beside, wouldn't it be a bit hypocritical watching a show basically centered on the simple values of friendship, community, and such, and not being able to bear with one of your friends' harmless over-enthusiasm ?

Personally I'd find much more annoying having to watch the show with a bunch of cynics who'd go all "Tsk..." each time something clicheed or "not credible" (like a deus ex machina having the good guys save the day against all odds - like they always do) occured on the screen. I'd rather have someone get all :panda or :ono during the somewhat :boohoo scenes that occure from time to time, than :sarc.

The scary thing about that statement is that it sounds true...

The Bible does indeed include some of the greatest stories ever told. Classics such as the Iliad and the Odyssey also come to mind. Humanity's myths and folklore...
Basically every great epic story told since then is somehow based on those classics.
