Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection

Post by fire2ash »

This thread was started in SG S7 but I'm going to start a new one since I dont see one.

As you know SF:AE was released September 1st, I must say, I have never been hooked to Street Fighter as I am now. I still can't stop playing third strike after 9 days, the game simply has so much depth do it. Also Capcom is going all out, the SF controllers came out and they have exclusive deal with blockbuster for a compilation of comics #1-6. Also the comics come with #7 and #8. All of this could not have come at a better time, looks like SF is getting popular again and there is so much SF3 new blood. Also if you remember Daigo beating Justin Wong, that was one of the main causes for the SF AE popularity thats rampant now, they should pay him :)

SF3 is arcade perfect, and the graphics are not any better/worse than DC version, unless your TV is crappy. They actually look better with smoothing filter on. HSF is cool but its lacking some great things. One is CPU vs mode, another is the AI only plays as ST. If you rememer ST AI it is damn near impossible to beat, even on the easiest difficulty level. The anime movie is better quality than vhs, and nowhere near bad, people complain too damn much.

Anyways awesome game I urge you all to get it. If only Capcom wasn't lazy and had implemented a matching service in US a long time ago when CVS2 came out, we would have online for SF AE and Capcom Fighting Jam coming out soon. Oh well guess I'll have to get Xbox version too? grrr.

The SF AE controllers are great, it comes in a beautiful box with official SF artwork, the box opens up and has small magnets so it shuts nicely and inside is also a certificate. There is an exclusive comic book inside as well. The controller itself is ultra responsive, and very smooth. Also the controller is very light but has a solid feel. The circular dpad isn't even noticable when your playing, in fact it only helps. This is a much better alternative than using a Dual Shock 2.

The Udon comic book series is great, this is the first comic series I've read in ages and Im intrigued. The art is simply beautiful, you have to see it for yourself, and they make Chun li look so hot :E

My friend's done nothing but play this for the past week... if I weren't so consumed with Phantom Brave (and uhh... school), I'd be over at his place 24/7 to play this.

How do the controllers actually play? I was thinking of picking some up to use for multiplayer MAME (I don't have enough room in my house for another X-Arcade).

From screenshots, it looks exactly like the 2nd generation of Sega Saturn controllers, but nobody I know has actually managed to find the SF controllers :{

The actual controllers are responsive, and as I described, are light yet solid in design. R1 and L1 are used for HK, HP while the other two are placed on top for EX attacks. With this set up you dont have to have throw or overhead by using the shoulder buttons anymore since its much easier to press two at a time now. They work on almost all fighting games, especially Capcom ones. Also there is a holographic display of whatever character you bought. I bought the akuma one because its black and I didn't want it to look like it was made for little kids being some other outragous color (and b/c akuma is of course, awesome).

About using it on Mame, I want to do that too! I've become incredibly good with Kb but i need this, can anyone give me a link to where I can get ps2 to usb adapter? I know radio shack used to carry them but I don't think they do anymore.

EDIT: its a little late now since most Blockbusters only get like 3-5 controllers, but on september 9th I got mine at a blockbuster that had 3 akuma's, also I believe akuma is blockbuster exclusive. Call your blockbusters and ask, don't ask some ignorant ho' or geezer either, because they wont know :)

yea, but i just dont like the idea of having to use thumbs for lights thru medium and then index for Fierce and Roundhouse... never liked it... that's why i like the stick better, im much better on a stick. I'm not saying controllers are bad, im just saying IMO its better played on a stick

You don't use the index fingers for Fierce and Roundhouse, I hate that too. Its a classic sega saturn type controller in which there is six buttons all on the front of the controller, nicely sized and you can even semi arcade by placing your palm facing the controller and using all your fingers instead of just your thumb.

I agree using an arcade stick is great, mostly because in real competitions thats what they use.

Yeah, my problem is I rarely go to arcades anymore, as I can't find any decent ones anyways :(

Those types of commands I got used to a long time ago thanks to SNK (god some of their inputs are just annoying).

Garou MOTW..Now that is a masterpiece.

Garou was AMAZING, if SNK had kept making their fighting games like that, not like KOF, i think they wouldnt have died the way they died, only to be resurrectd to suck it up some more

I got mine today dude and let me tell ya: THIRD STRIKE IS ADDICTING. :cry

I played it for 5 hours STRAIGHT tonight. Goddamit.

And no hidden characters = :boo, lack of modes, lack of things to do, bring down the total score but in the long run you can't be TOO hard on Third Strike because it's so fucking FUN.

I can't even stand to play SFII in this day and age. ;( I bought this for 3S. :E

I suck at using sticks. :(

I still play Garou Online on Mame. It rivals SF3 in its down-to-earth technical, punishing whiffs gameplay.

I agree completely with TheDarkOne, but when forced to use a controller for the PC, I started using the parallel port adapter from Divineo, and some cheap 3rd-party Dual Shock knock-offs.

I wouldn't recommend USB adapters, simply because there's a slight lag. It's not noticable on most games, but if your trying to do frame-based timings on fighting games, then you'll end up throwing it at a wall :{

Yeah, put online lag on top of that and it must suck. Is there anyway I can convert my controller to the PC with minimum input lag?

Rip open a Dual Shock, rip open an old-skool (non-USB) keyboard, and solder all the Dual Shock inputs onto the keyboard's PCB, so that when you press a button on the Dual Shock, it initiates a keypress.

That's the most definitive lag-free method of doing it. (And the reason all good PC joysticks act as keyboards).

The less-insane solution is to shell out money for a dedicated MAME joystick/controller, or to put up with a very slight lag ^^;

Yes her abare super is simply intimidating, there is another SA that is just as useful but no where near as intimidating, although getting the fierce in after the command grab can be a bit tricky at first. Also if you dont have an SA you can use her qcfxp. You can pretty much use that in any situation.

Also, always on the last hit of that Super Art, cancel it with a dash and use her anti air move, or whatever you wish.

btw, anyone notice the strange level of difficulty in HSFII? Some of the other characters are incredibly hard to beat, but I beat MBISON, before one of the cheapest cheating AI's in history, with 2 perfects!

Yeah, the game is immensely on the cheap side, especially Zangief. From what I hear, they took the incredibly difficult AI of SSFII: Turbo and put it in this one (though basically the game is a direct port of that game with the ability to use older "isms" thrown in there).

I can't stand SFII:HF! It drives me insane.

*has played it only twice and has played 3S atleast 20 x more than that*

I'm addicted to 3S. :{ What's so addicting about 3S is that each and every fight it unique because of the parry system. The parry system gives the game so much depth, I mean, yeah you can parry just about any attack but then you have to know WHEN to parry and when not to parry.

For instance if Ryu throws his hadoken super art, if you parry, he can take advantage of the situation and own you up.

Matoko is my character of choice. I managed to beat Gill with her last night.

I bought the guide last night. And being the 3S nub that I am it was sooo worth it. Got the ost too. :choco

here's a nice glitch with Akuma/Gouki, if you thow a hadoken and cancel into a SA, if they parry the hadoken, they cant parry the SA, even if their timing is dead on, they wont be able to parry it...

I find the parry system in 3rd Strike to be so much more relaxed than CVS2. It seems that you don't have to be incredibly accurate in your timing to parry complex moves or even oncoming attacks. The Super Arts are ridicilously easy to parry as I've already mastered parrying Chun-li's kick super in less than 5 minutes (no exxageration). It just feels that if you throw a foward out within a certain amount of time you'll parry the move regardless if you feel that the timing is off. Wake up parries are realy nice and easily lead to quick punishing.

Right now, I'm playing a lot with Ryu, Ken, Chun-li and Makoto. Ryu is my best character right now and I'm owning the AI at level 8 diffuculty with the Denjin Hadouken super. I like to jump in with foward, land, fpXXf.dp, SC. Denjin Hadouken. Basically, you charge it up as they fall and release it as they get up but it works the best in corners (obviously). Denjin is unblockable and if you charge it long enough you can get an instant to deal out even more damage. Easily turns the tide in battles especialyl agaisnt that bastard gill and his resurretion super art.

I have to agree that Third Strike is definitely the reason to buy this game (even though I bought it more for SF2). Even though I own SFIII: Next Generation/2nd Impact on Dreamcast, I'm enjoying this one a lot more than both of those. I'm slowly getting used to the parry system, but I'm slowly beginning to appreciate it.

It's usually a kara-karausa, but then it's s.F xx, super, dash under 623+FP, TK 214+K if I'm not mistaken. Way too much stun, and in some cases, instant death (100% combo).

I've been playing 3S for a while now, but I'm fucking with Q, Remy, Makoto, and Urien. It's nice to have his unblockables back.

the parry system *is* way more relaxed than CVS2. although that being said, i'm still not too hot at it during 3S either :< i can handle the timing okay, it's just getting into the whole parry ethos; after building up blocking habits for years and years, and never using A groove in CVS2, it's difficult to suddenly completely switch a play style, no matter how more effective it is. full-parrying supers is something i'm yet to toy with, the concept somewhat scares me and i'm fully aware there's a big difference between being able to do it in training mode, and having the foresight (and balls) to try it in an actual match.

sofar i've stuck to shoto clones which is a bit annoying, but have been trying to pick up urien. in time i'd like to learn yun too so that i can abuse super+juggling potential.

I use Makoto, Elena, Ken, Yun, and Yang.

Yeah, I can parry a couple of SA's.

Killy, I'm going to work on parrying that Chun Li SA tonight. XD

Mikey, I'm enjoying Karausa A LOT. I mean, I can mix up like crazy with her. I often fake r+HK and and then cancel into karausa, and do a combo.

I've noticed r+MK.neutral.HK is VERY handy for poking. With Matoko I can control the whole stage, I'm all over that bitch.

Man..this guide is so PERFECT. I really suggest picking it up.

Using Ryu or Ken, I find a good jump in, fierce punch, medium punch, jab punch, low jab-kick, Shin Shoryuken/Shinryuken works well (about 60-70% hp can be taken out).

But yeah, 3S was well enough the reason for SF:AC. I won't criticize the anime too much but I'm glad they added that in there. So much could have been done though.

:heh minus the low jab-kick, but yeah, it works. The jumping fierce punch tends to push them away but jump in deep or shove em to a wall and it works well.

wtf, you can link a SA off of a Jab? preposterous!!

*goes and tries it*

EDIT: i call bullshit.. after the Medium they're way too far away for the Jab to even hit, let alone SA afterwards. Even if you jump REALLY deep, so deep that its OBVIOUS AND your in the corner...

EDIT2: you can do j.F, s.M > 236+Pxx236236+P, that links... but you cant throw in a jab in there....

Try jumping in, medium punch, low punch, Shin Shoryuken. Maybe that was it.

link with a jab? :(

Shinji, Matoko is very very easy to use. You just have to link your combos with Karausa. But don't try to Karausa right after they hit the ground and recover, because they'll expect that. Try to play mind games with the opponent by mixing Karausa with normal and special moves, that way, they expect it but don't know when it's coming.

btw, karausa basically is pretty damn weak..but, it's so good with her offense game because it gives her a second or two of lag so she can do a combo and have the upper hand.

If you learn how to Karausa right, you've got it made.

Try jumping in, medium punch, low punch, Shin Shoryuken. Maybe that was it.
this is the part of your combo that works

J.F, s.M .... that's it... the low punch wont hit, too far away, here's what i do

J.F, s.M > 236+P xx 236236+P

that hits.. and does like 25% dmg...

edit: it would also help if you used more common terminology, like jab, medium, fierce; or s.j, s.m, s.f (the letter preceiding dictates what possition your in J.j is jumping jap, s.f is Standing fierce, and c.m would be crotching medium)

Only 25%? Try to chain the Shin Shoryuken in somehow. That alone should do a good 40% -50%

As for Makoto, so suppose I use a Karausa, fierce kick, feirce punch, hayate (simple I think). Would that be a good start?

I'll make note of that. Thanks :)

um.... you'd have to pick the Shin Shoryuken super, in 3S you only get to choose one super art... i usually got for Shinku Hadoken since it more combo friendly... and has multiple gauges so i can use EX moves and supers, and you forget that if you combo a SA there's dmg scaling, so the super at the end doesnt do as much dmg as it would if you have just used it by itself

Hmmm...I'm contemplating buying a SFAC controller, but I need to save money. ;(

I really want one.

I'm having lots of trouble doing EX moves. Any tips? I can't seem to move fngers to be positioned so I press LP+MP or LK+MK :{

You can usually link a SA over most any jab, dependant on the character. Like Ken can do c.lk, c.lk, SA III.

Makoto's game basically revolves around landing that kara-usa. Once you get that, it's over. If you memorize the combo with SAII over the kara-usa then you will be feared. Anyways, Makoto is fast, she's got an insanely fast dash. Use that to your advantage. She's a good poker too, make plenty use of c.MP and c.MK. j.MK is good for crossover. ex-CHOP is scary off a s.FP.

You have to mix up with her. Kara-kara-usa can more or less win the match for you. KKU off her s.lk or s.mp.

Other than that, be a dick and follow them around. Don't let them get away from you.

As for Ryu, the best time to combo into his Shin-Shoryuken is by super canceling his regular shoryuken.
