I just finished Haibane, and I have to say it was a beautiful series, real beautiful, and it was such a big, big, big welcome change of pace. I really needed it.

I'm still a bit irked at there not being any explaination as to what the Haibane are, where they came from, and so on, but I've accepeted it really, it's not much of a bother.

And I LOVE Rakka.

I'm planning on finishing ArJEWna later tonight. I really like the character relationships, the music is good, and the animation is amazing, but the story doesn't leave much of an impression on me... it just beats you over the head again and again with the tree-huggery.

You know, I have a question. What would you consider yuri shows like Yamibou and Maria-sama?

I mean, clearly "shounen ai" (like Gravitation) is for girls, but what about yuri?... In the two examples I listed, the romance sure feels girly, and no doubt it's from a girl's point of view... but it's yuri.

I mean... ????

Yuri is a very "girl" oriented manga series, apparently. I don't know ANY guys who had read that. They read I's or Boys Be, and that's about as close as they get to the yuri. At least normal guys. Most of them just stick with the strict diet of shonen stuff or harem.

Not that I'm considering getting into a habit of watching yuri, but I have to admit that Yamibou and Maria-sama have FAR more style than 95% of shounen romance/harem. It puzzles me how much more I enjoyed those shows over shit like Da Capo and Maburaho and (oh how we can't forget) Onegai Twins.

That's because Da Capo, Maburaho, and Onegai Twins all sucked, Doom. Shounen romance is dying out a bit - I haven't read any really good ones since the aforementioned I's and Boys Be. From what I hear guys just read shoujo manga (Kare Kano is apparently one that guys will actually read from time to time) if they are into it.

Then again, I'm probably wrong.

I haven't bothered to watch Yuri stuff just because I'm not very interested in it. If I hear of a show that is supposed to be really good, like Shinobuden 2x2 or whatever it was, I'll give it a try, but honeslty I don't have much of a thrill for that genre because shoujou stuff does it so much better.

Yes I do believe I proclaimed them to suck. I guess my complaint is on how the romance genre is being wrung to death...

Shows that make a POINT of going over the top, like Green Green and Eiken, are far worthier than the bland, generic shit that I keep seeing but nevertheless watch anyway...
